Mla Bulletin | Ogie Alcasid takes on new role as Heritage Ambassador

by Crispina Martinez-Belen
May 14, 2011, 1:00am

Our congratulations go to multi-awarded singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid for having been appointed by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) as Heritage Ambassador.

For him, this is an exciting and challenging role to take even if he is already saddled with work as TV host, actor and entrepreneur, and president of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM).

Promoting heritage is not entirely new for Ogie as his family, particularly his mother Mini Alcasid, is active in heritage advocacy. And so, he did not hesitate to help out when the NCCA asked him to endorse and promote the activities of the National Heritage Month, which incidentally kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Rizal Park and National Museum last May 1 with a pre-program that included a Santacruzan, an exhibit on the Vintage Scenarios of Manila; Philippine National Cultural Treasures and World Heritage Sites; and Heritage Conservation activities of the Esuella Taller and Intramuros Administration; a food festival of authentic Filipino cuisines and delicacies.

Program proper includes performances by the Kalanguya School of Living Traditions group, Alonzo Saclag and the Kalinga Budong Dance Group and Uwang Ahadas as well as Filipino folk dances by the Barangay Folk Dance Troupe. These will be capped by kundiman performances by Aretha Ancao and Ogie himself accompanied by the Banda Kawayan.

Ogie will be utilizing his popularity to call attention to the Philippines’ heritage, generate greater awareness on its plight and foster wider appreciation of its importance and beauty. These he will do for the celebration of National Heritage Month which the NCCA is spearheading this month of May.

This year’s celebration is led by the NCCA’s Subcommission on Cultural Heritage headed by Regalado Trota Jose, with a lineup of activities for a whole month that will surely feed the soul. This year’s theme, “Taoid: Weaving Our Stories, Threading our Paths” will give us a glimpse of the legacies of the past and how it remains to shape the present and the future.

Other activities are Angat Kabataan! Preservation of the Philippine Churches Declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and National Cultural Treasures, a three-day youth camp initiated by the NCCA-National Committee on Archives (NCA) in Iloilo this month, a Cordillera textile exhibit at the Tam-Awan Artists Village in Baguio City, a pilgrimage to the country’s old churches, a Sta. Ana Church misa cantada; a performance by Coke Balipata and the Pundaquit Virtuouis at St. Peter and Paul Church in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The National Heritage Month will end on May 27 in Dapitan City, ushering in the main celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of our National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

By the way, NCCA is led by its OIC-Chairman, Jose Laderas Santos, and its executive director, Malou Jacob.

Yahoo PH OMG! | Ogie spearheads celebrity ‘ukay-ukay’ for charity

by Chuck Smith | omg! Philippines News Blog
Wed, Mar 23, 2011 5:18 PM PHT

Ogie Alcasid encourages celebrities—regardless of network alliance—to join their Celebrity "Ukay-Ukay" fund-raiser this April.

The proceeds of the event will go to the GMA Kapuso Foundation's Kapuso School Development Project which aims to build 50 public school classrooms every year.

"Since it is a Kapuso project, hindi lang naman nangangahulugan na puro lang Kapuso artists yung iniinvite namin na magdala ng wares nila. So if you're from the Kapamilya network, if you're from TV5, you're most welcome to bring your wares," Ogie said in a press conference last week.

He added, "We're not after kung sinong mas magaling na network dito. Our project is to raise money for all the classrooms found in public schools here in the Philippines that need repairs or to build classrooms perhaps in areas na walang eskwelahan."

Ogie said he has already asked the support of various talent managers and producers such as Annabelle Rama and Girlie Rodis for the charity project. He also revealed that Lily Monteverde of Regal Films have already donated one million pesos for the Kapuso School Development Project.

"I think one important aspect that's very clear is that the students and the teachers and the ones employed in those schools, they've regained the dignity that they've lost because of the calamities that destroyed all these schools. So I think more than the money, more than us repairing all those schools, the dignity that they regained from having those schools fixed I think is more important," Ogie said.

In an interview with GMA-7's "24 Oras" aired recently, Ogie said he acknowledges the difficulty of raising that much money for the project. "Pero wala namang imposible, di ba?" Ogie told "24 Oras."

"I am so thankful that Ogie and Regine are there to spearhead this project. And I'm so thankful na lahat ng kanilang colleagues in the industry are really, they're excited about the project," Mel Tiangco, Executive Vice President of the Kapuso Foundation, told "24 Oras."

She added, "Itabi muna natin yung taga ibang network ako, o iba yung aking pinagtatrabahuhan. So lahat imbitado."

The Celebrity "Ukay-Ukay" will be held at the Summer Heat Wave event from April 15 to 17 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

You Might Be The Next OPM Superstar! Realize your dream via OPM-Pagcor nationwide talent search

More and more Filipino talents are being discovered through talent competitions, the latest of which is the “OPM@Pagcor, A Nationwide Search for the Total OPM Performer!” which was launched recently.

The search, which is being held for the first time, is a collaboration between the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) and the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM). The search will give talented but undiscovered Pinoys the chance to realize their dream of musical stardom.

In the words of Pagcor Asst. Vice Pres. for Entertainment Bong Quintana, “OPM@Pagcor” will give amateur yet exceptional Filipino singers the opportunity to shine and showcase their talents. This is also the state gaming agency’s response to Pres. Aquino’s directive for Pagcor to give support to the promotion and advancement of the OPM advocacies.

Deserving Filipino talents who will be discovered through this talent search will have the rare opportunity to be trained by the country’s top music icons.

On his part, OPM President Ogie Alcasid said he is equally elated with their joint endeavor with Pagcor: “OPM is very happy about this tie-up. This is one of the good examples of private-government cooperation, a good gesture of government support to the local music industry,” he said.

It’s a timely project as it comes at a time when Filipino music is lacking in support. “With this project, we hope to bring back the glory days of OPM,” Ogie added.

It is noted that since the ’80s, local live performances no longer receive the kind of popularity as compared to the ’70s. OPM attributes this to the increasing interest and popularity of foreign music, as well as concerts by international concerts in the country.

The one to be hailed as “Total OPM Performer” will receive P300,000 in cash, a recording contract with a major recording company and another contract to perform at Pagcor’s Casino Filipino branches.

By the way, the talent search is open to all amateur Filipino singers with dual citizenship who are at least 18 years old, and who have not won any major prize in any national competition.

Deadline for submission of application is on March 10, 2011. Auditions will officially start on March 18 at Casino Filipino Angeles. Other audition venues will be at Casino Filipino branches in Manila Pavilion, Tagaytay, Bacolod, Cebu and Davao.

For more details on “OPM@Pagcor,”  visit http://www.pagcor.ph or http://www.opm.org.ph.

PEP.ph | Ogie Alcasid busy preparing for EDSA People Power 25th anniversary celebration

by Nerisa Almo
Friday, February 18, 2011 | 06:39 PM

Starting today, they'll be cleaning the whole monument, pati doon sa EDSA Shrine. Pati 'yong ating landscaping medyo babaguhin."

"Well, I'm the youngest in the commission, I learned from all of them. The people in the commission really have their hearts in the right place. I mean, they're willing to work for the commission and for the people for nothing.

"We haven't talked about any means of compensation. We haven't even talked about that. On our own, we said yes to the call of the president [Noynoy Aquino], and yes to the call of the people who put up the commission."

Dagdag pa ni Ogie, "Twenty-five years ago, I was also here on EDSA. So, I take it as an honor for me to be able to serve. I think anyone would be honored to be given that task to serve."

Dagdag pa niya, "I don't really know what it stands for. I just got inspired with so many things happening. Not only sa buhay ng ordinaryong Pilipino, pati na rin sa maraming larangan tulad ng sports. The Azkals, I was quite inspired by that. And all the small victories that we have [achieved].

"Of course, there are still some things na nagiging setback sa atin, pero gano'n 'yon. You have to take [the good with] the bad. It's a happy song. It's something celebratory."

Mla Bulletin | Regine carries Ogie's surname in billing

by Alex Valentin Brosas
February 1, 2011, 9:09am

Singer Regine Velasquez is making sure everyone knows she is married to Ogie Alcasid by carrying his last name in the billing of her upcoming TV show.

The decision to use "Regine Velasquez-Alcasid" is solely hers.

“Ako ‘yung nagpalagay talaga kasi nga I want to carry it kasi siyempre proud ako. Hindi naman ganito, ganyan. Nakikita na lang niya. I really wanted to carry his name. Kaysa naman tinanggal ‘yung Velasquez,” she said.

As soon as she exchanged I do’s with Ogie last December, Regine promised to make her husband her priority.

Buti na lang very understanding siya,” she said.

With the couple’s busy schedule, there is limited time for them to be intimate with each other. Still, she welcomes having a baby and will take a rest when she gets pregnant.

“Kung talagang mangyayari, mangyayari, ‘di ba? Kung mangyari ‘yon then I have to give myself a rest. 'Lord, puwede ba ‘wag muna.' Whatever! Basta sa ngayon I’m just trying to take it easy. Working really hard for the show. Sana abangan n’yo. It’s really, really fun.”

Correcting the usual misconception among newlyweds, Regine says Ogie did not impose limitations on her career.

“Hindi ‘yon gano’n, eh. He also knows that I also don’t like that... na bigyan ako ng ano... alam ko naman, eh. Although minsan kakausapin niya ako. He’ll make me understand.... may asawa ka na. Kasi nga we’re in the same business."

PEP.ph | Regine Velasquez-Alcasid on being married to Ogie: "Ang saya-saya kasi parang mas in love pa ako!"

by Erwin Santiago
Tuesday, February 1, 2011
08:30 AM

I want to carry his name.

NO ADJUSTMENT NEEDED.

Aniya, "Kasi as soon as we got engaged, just a few months, we lived together na, e. But we were already engaged...

"Kasi, we were really planning to get married. He really wanted to marry me. Kaya lang, nung time na 'yon, we were still waiting for something. So, finally dumating na 'yon, so we got married."

Patuloy ng Asia's Songbird, "Ako, happy ako na we decided to live together first. Kasi, parang yun yung adjustment.

"Actually mga three years 'yon, mga gano'n. After no'n, ang saya-saya lang. Parang honeymoon stage kami forever."

Wala nang gulatan?

"Wala na," sagot ni Regine. "Feeling ko lang, parang mas... Ang saya-saya kasi parang mas in love pa ako! Nakakatawa nga kami kasi parang walang masyadong nabago.

PEP.ph | YES! celebrates the month of love with the much-awaited wedding of Ogie and Regine

by Aimee Rigor

Celebrate the month of love with YES! magazine as the much-awaited union of Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez headlines its February issue. Over 200 photos of the star-studded wedding are spread across 40 pages, where Ogie and Regine talk about the beginnings of their romance, their dark years, and their family.

"To marry her was a dream," Ogie tells YES!, "There was a part of me that thought it would never happen." After nearly two years since he filed a petition for the annulment of his marriage to former beauty queen Michelle Van Eimeren, the annulment was finally granted last June 21, 2010.

Upon learning that Ogie's marriage was annulled, Regine became emotional despite the fact that she was no longer hoping for a marriage and was simply content to be with him.

"Of course, it'd be nice, you know, kung maging asawa talaga ako. "So no'ng nakuha na niya [Ogie] finally, naiyak ako, kasi parang feeling ko, parang he can now start his life with me and, you know, he doesn't have to think about it anymore, he doesn't have to keep fighting for me, you know. That's how I felt."

With the court's decision, the two-year wait finally came to an end. The singer-songwriter and Asia's Songbird wed last December 22, 2010 at The Peak in Terrazas de Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas.

The wedding would not have been complete without the people that Ogie and Regine consider their family: Ogie's ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren and her husband Mark Morrow—who flew in from Australia a few days before the ceremony together with Ogie and Michelle's daughters, Leila and Sarah.

Spotted at the Alcasid-Velasquez nuptials were President Noynoy Aquino with his sister Kris Aquino (who also happens to be Regine's best friend); Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres-Gomez, Senator Bong Revilla, Gloria Diaz, Michael V, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, fashion designer Rajo Laurel, network bigwigs Manny Pangilinan of TV5 and Atty. Felipe Gozon of GMA-7, and other showbiz personalities and friends of the couple.

YES! also gives a sneak peak into the couple's wedding preparations, the venue and the wedding decor, Ogie and Regine's weddings rings, and a copy of their wedding vows. Relive the wedding with photos of the wedding ceremony, the reception at the Terrazas de Punta Fuego Beach Club and the wedding concert with the country's top musicians Sarah Geronimo, Lea Salonga, Janno Gibbs and Gary Valenciano.

The February issue of YES! also tours you around the Asian-inspired abode of Survivor Philippines castaway Solenn Heussaff, and features the launch of Piolo Pascual's new coffee-table book titled Piolo Revealed, and the inspiring story of Raissa Laurel, who survived the La Salle bombing.

Mla Bulletin | Ogie, latest P-Noy appointee

By Neil Ramos
January 17, 2011, 4:16pm

Singer-actor Ogie Alcasid might just follow his father, Herminio Alcasid Sr., in the Aquino government.

Alcasid has been appointed in what many deem a vanity post—the EDSA People Power Commission—along with Christopher Carreon, Emily Abrera, Conrado de Quiros, and Milagros Kilayko.

The commission is meant to promote the ideals of the original “People Power” of 1986, the 25th anniversary of which will be commemorated in February.

In explaining the appointments, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said, “(There) is need to rationalize the composition of the [commission] to facilitate a more efficient and streamlined preparation and organization of events and activities related to the propagation of the spirit of the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution.”

There is no confirmation as yet if the personalities had accepted or declined their appointments.

Earlier, Alcasid’s father was appointed as member of the board of directors of the Philippine National Oil Co.-Development and Management Corp. The appointment was heavily criticized, with some deeming it a payback of sorts for the younger Alcasid’s effort in campaigning for Aquino.

This was denied by all involved, including the singer himself.

Meanwhile, another personality who received similar critical backlash as that of Alcasid Sr’s, is Bong Quintana, partner of popular TV talk show host Boy Abunda, one of the closest friends of Aquino’s youngest sister, Kris.

Quintana was appointed assistant vice-president for entertainment of state-owned gaming firm, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

PAGCOR had vigorously parried suggestions that Quintana’s appointment was lobbied for by Abunda or the presidential sister.

Abunda, as with Aquino, had refuted the notion as well.

PEP.ph | Ogie Alcasid wants higher tax rates for concerts by foreign artists

by Mark Angelo Ching
Friday, January 7, 2011, 06:35 PM

"We must push for higher taxes on foreign shows and lowering of taxation sa local concerts," saad ni Ogie, presidente ng Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM).

Ang OPM ang "leading and most respected organization of Filipino professional singers in the country," ayon sa website nito.

Manila Bulletin | Ogie-Regine wedding raises a million for Gawad Kalinga

Moviegoer by Nestor Cuartero
January 7, 2011, 12:30pm

SAVINGS BY FIVE MILLION: Ogie Alcasid revealed that he and Regine Velasquez saved as much as 5 million pesos on their wedding day Dec. 22 at a posh resort in Batangas due to the TV practice of exchange deals.

The savings represented expenditures in venue, food, flowers, and other trimmings that make for a grand wedding such as theirs. The Alcasids were wed at Punta Fuego, possibly one of the best resort hotels in Nasugbu. Suppliers were properly showcased and credited on the GMA TV special that aired a few days after the celebrity wedding.

Not only did Ogie and Regine save on cost of wedding expenses. They were also able to raise as much as one million pesos in cash, which they intend to use as seed money in helping build a Gawad Kalinga village.

In a conversation Jan. 4 at a Quezon City restaurant, Ogie said he and his wife are now thinking of using the money to build a music center within an existing GK village for use of musically talented youths in the community. Building a music center is the advice of GK elders led by Tony Meloto to the couple.

Ogie and Regine raised over a million pesos when they asked guests to give them cash instead of material gifts. They sure are starting their marriage on right footing by being people for others.

---------------

COST A FORTUNE: While savings were noted and funds were raised, Ogie did not hide the fact that the newly weds spent a fortune on their much publicized wedding, his second and her first.

“This is why I’m working so hard again, nalagas ako doon,” he smiled.

Ogie is topbilling, in tandem, with Pops Fernandez, a pre-Valentine concert, “I Valentine You,” on Feb. 12 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas Center.

Presented by Royale Artists Management headed by Ms. Annabelle Rama, the show also guests Regine Velasquez, together with Bea Tantoco, Solenn Heussaff and a bunch of sexy stars – Ehra Madrigal, Bubbles Paraiso, Carla Humphries, Arci Muñoz and Michelle Madrigal – known collectively as iCandy.
