"Play Music is a really good album, - varied, consistent and full of surprises... This is one that lasts." Eardrums

Pitbull celebrates a momentous career milestone today as his smash hit “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” peaked on the Billboard Top 100 chart at #4 and on the Soundscan Single chart at #2. It is the only independently released single ranking in the top 10 on either of these charts.
Billboard’s Michael Menachem wrote in his review (4/4/09) of the infectious club anthem, “The clever meshing of reggaeton with Euro dance music signals what looks like a multiformat smash. At the core is an acoustic guitar and a sizzling rhythm, with hot horns in the form of a sample that just keeps on giving: Chicago's ‘Street Player,’ which appeared in the '90s techno hit ‘The Bomb’ by the Bucketheads.” Italy’s Nicola Fasano vs. Pat-Rich took the sample creating “75, Brazil Street” and then mashed it with Pitbull’s vocals, resulting in the song which sold over 128,000 units this week and 652,000 singles sold overall to date.

Check out the sultry video, which is now in rotation on MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams and FUSE, as posted on Ultra Records Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/UltraRecords

Growing up with the works of Cuban poet Jose Marti, Pitbull—also known by his fans as Mr. 305--blends his early lyrical influences with a Miami bass sound. Able to harness the power of spoken word, Pitbull made his debut on the 2002 Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz album "King of Crunk," and hasn’t stopped since. After appearing on The Fast and the Furious soundtrack in 2004, he released his debut album "M.I.A.M.I. (Money Is a Major Issue)" featuring the hit single “Culo” featuring Lil Jon. Pitbull was soon unstoppable, dropping two more albums in two years: "El Mariel" in 2006 and "The Boatlift" in 2007. He has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the game including Lil Jon, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Ponce, Rick Ross, Don Omar, Bun B, and Ying Yang Twins.

CHICKENFOOT - The Rock Supergroup Of The Year!

(photography by: Bryan Adams)

SAMMY HAGAR- Montrose founder, solo artist and singer in Van Halen who enjoyed more Top 10 albums and singles than original singer David Lee Roth. JOE SATRIANI- one of the biggest guitar heroes of all time. MICHAEL ANTHONY - founding member of Van Halen, bass player and backing vocalist (of unique high pitch style). He played on all the Van Halen studio albums so far. CHAD SMITH - a real thunder on the drums and a member of one of the biggest Rock groups of the last 20 years with loyal dedicated fans - Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

“Chickenfoot” is a big American Rock album with a rich and powerful sound that was not to be found since at least 10 years. The definitive Hard Rock masterpieces from four musicians who could generate a huge amount of interest even if they were to release a new Rock album as solo artists. Together... they are simply the best Rock band of the year.

CHICKENFOOT's self-titled album will be released locally this June by Universal Records!

Remember The Name #2 - CATS ON FIRE

"Don't look now, but one of the best British indie bands of the decade isn't from Britain at all. At least not strictly speaking. Cats On Fire's passport pin them as Finnish nationals, but the band's sophomore set, "Our Temperance Movement", pins the band as long-lost sons of The Smiths, Felt and Pulp. Scandinavian indie-pop traditions be damned, Cats On Fire are the sort of pop act any Anglophile on this side of the Atlantic should be watching." - Aversion.com

CATS ON FIRE's debut album "The Province Complains" and latest album "Our Temperance Movement" will be released locally by Universal Records!

Her name is Alina Puscau or simply Alina.

Already famous as one of the world’s most beautiful women, the Victoria’s Secret model and GQ cover girl Alina Puscau is now set for pop stardom with the release of her debut album "Everybody Wants Me". Two months before its release, Alina’s debut single "When You Leave (Numa Numa)" had already notched up more than four million views on YouTube, made the Billboard dance chart Top 10 and been lauded by P.Diddy and Kanye West. Last year, Alina was invited to Mariah Carey’s house and was shocked to discover her idol knew the song. Thanks to a steamy video shot by A-list Hollywood director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X Men and happens also to be Alina’s boyfriend) and choreographed by Fatima Robinson, who has previously worked with The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie and Rihanna. Alina’s celebrity fans and startling start to her pop career mean she is more in demand than ever – she was recently announced as the face of Playboy.com.

Alina's debut album "Everbody Wants Me" will be released locally by Universal Records.

2009 sees The Whitest Boy Alive return with a highly anticipated new album entitled "Rules". The album follows up 2006’s successful "Dreams" which introduced Erlend Øye’s side project The Whitest Boy Alive to the world. Øye is the spectacled half of Norwegian acoustic duo Kings Of Convenience, who gave us hits like "Toxic Girl" and "Misread". He formed The Whitest Boy Alive with the intention of taking a break from Kings of Convenience's restrained acoustic sound and making electronic dance music.

Billy Crawford's "Groove" Album Packaging

Shown here: special packaging for Billy Crawford's album "Groove"

May 8, 2009

Billy Crawford: singer, songwriter, dancer, performer, producer. 2 million records sold and still counting…

In 2001, Billymania started in Europe when his smash hit "Trackin" went straight to the top of the French charts and was certified platinum (more than 500,000 copies sold). The track also made #1 in Holland, #2 in Belgium, #3 in Switzerland, #20 in Germany. His second album "Ride" was certified gold in France (100,000 copies) within just a few weeks and shipped gold in Switzerland. The album went on to achieve platinum status in the French market (300,000) and a total of 450,000 copies have been sold to date. Billy Crawford has already received a nomination at the 2002 NRJ Music Awards for “Best Newcomer of the Year” and in 2003, he was awarded as “International Male Artist of the Year” beating competition from Will Smith, Eminem and Robbie Williams. In 2004, Billy released his 3rd album “Big City” and toured the Philippines to promote the album release. The first single “Bright Lights” was an immediate success and the album was certified Gold. He released another album in 2007 entitled “It’s Time” and hosted a dance reality show “M.O.V.E.” The winning dancers became part of his back-up dancers in his major concert at the Araneta Coliseum. In 2008, Billy transferred to ABS-CBN and became the host of Pinoy Dream Academy and is now seen regularly on ASAP.

Lady Sovereign video "So Human"

Sampling elements from The Cure's Close To Me, this is the catchy single from British rap-pop sensation Lady Sovereign entitled "So Human", off her album "Jigsaw".

Lady Sovereign "Jigsaw" album marketed and distributed in the Philippines by Universal Records, under license from Midget Records.

GO BRITS - Great Albums From U.K.'s Best Kept Secrets!

NEW RHODES - Everybody Loves A Scene
After completing tours with the likes of Bloc Party, Razorlight and The Killers, Bristol formed/London based four piece New Rhodes release their second album "Everybody Loves A Scene". Inspired by the likes of Joy Division, The Smiths and The Strokes, the album is set to be one of the hottest albums of 2009 and sees the band continue with the British indie rock sound of their 2006 critically-acclaimed debut that falls somewhere between The Smiths, The House Of Love, Kaiser Chiefs and Editors. The singles "The Joys Of Finding And Losing That Girl", "Is This The Life You Want" and "Everybody Loves A Scene" are included.

DECORATION - See You After The War
Decoration grip your emotions with a simple recipe of shimmering, interfering guitars and a reflection on real life. Three parts Bolton, one part London, they make soaring atmospheric pop in the classic indie tradition - embracing the passion and humour of The Smiths, Echo and The Bunnymen, Pulp and The Wedding Present. Featuring vocal contributions from John Bramwell of I Am Kloot and Jana Heller of The Arrogants, the new album "See You After the War" sways like a punch-drunk heavyweight from rampant indie guitar jangle thrash to head-in-the-hands post-bout melancholic realisation. Includes "Glasshouse" and "Square Mile".

SILENT ALLIANCE - The Spirit Of An Age To Come
In an alternative music scene dominated by style-over-substance monotone indie rock, London's Silent Alliance stand out as one of the few bands that can truly claim to be a unique proposition. Silent Alliance have created an intelligent, guitar-driven pop sound that combines both the euphoric and hugely danceable with the reflective and melancholic. Their musical influences include the likes of New Order, The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Psychedelic Furs and Bruce Springsteen, as well as more obscure modern Scandinavian artists such as Mew and Hakan Hellstrom. Featuring "Cities On Fire", "The Edge Of Town", "Hollow Talk" and more. Includes one Philippines-only bonus track!

WAKE THE PRESIDENT - You Can't Change That Boy
Glasgow's Wake The President release their debut album, "You Can’t Change That Boy". Co-produced by ex-Delgados’ drummer Paul Savage (whose recent credits include Franz Ferdinand, King Creosote, & Malcolm Middleton), they are the latest innovative group to be released on the award-winning Electric Honey Records (others include Belle & Sebastian, Snow Patrol) and have been tipped by MOJO as the band to keep an eye on. They draw their influences from a variety of sources, with the Postcard-era Go Betweens/Aztec Camera as well as The Smiths and Orange Juice unashamedly seeping through in their diverse harmonies and melodies. Featuring "Remember Fun?", "Miss Tierney", "You Can't Change That Boy" and more.

The Glasgow-based four-piece Sons and Daughter (featuring ex-members of Arab Strap) present their new album "This Gift". Winning fans in Nick Cave, Franz Ferdinand and the critics who marked Sons And Daughters out as a unique group of fine taste and judgment. For the new album, they've recruited former Suede guitarist and fast-becoming über-producer Bernard Butler to produce their third and most accessible album. "The Gift" is nowhere near as dark-hearted and intense as its predecessor, but the trade off is a broader sound that takes in '60s girl groups and psychobilly rock, sounding something like the teenage offspring of Strawberry Switchblade and The Cramps. Other influences include Blondie, defunct American cult act Pretty Girls Make Graves and the Velvet Underground. Features the singles "Gilt Complex", "The Gift" and "Darling".

Fans of Broadcast, Electrelane, Ladytron, Au Revoir Simone, Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine, hope you're reading this. Brooklyn trio School of Seven Bells, founded by ex-Secret Machines guitarist Benjamin Curtis and vocalist twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza of On!Air!Library!, are currently causing a bit of a frenzy amongst the indie media, and it's easy to see why. Their intoxicating blend of droning soundscapes, ethereal vocals, afro-pop and electro house influences has captured imaginations, hearts and a growing legion of fans. In their debut album "Alpinisms", they have uncovered a rich nexus between humming shoegaze guitar, floaty and ethereal 4AD pop, and the wistful exuberance of ’90s Manchester. The album includes contribution from Blonde Redhead's Simone Pace and includes the singles "My Cabal", "Iamundernodisguise", "Face To Face On High Places", "Half Asleep" and more.

The Morning Paper is primarily the solo project of David Kyhlberg and features a rotating cast of characters including Ida Bergstrom (of the Bridal Shop) and Karl Daniel Tornqvist. The Morning Paper’s new album "What We Want" reveals a band whose sound, heavily embroidered with epic synth washes and shy, reverb-kissed vocals, nodded to like minded Scandinavians such as Celestial and The Radio Dept. Recommended if you like New Order, Cocteau Twins, Sigur Ros, Slowdive, Prefab Sprout, Saint Etienne, My Bloody Valentine, Brighter, The Radio Department, Nathan Fake, M83, Trembling Blue Stars, Blueboy, Brian Eno, Junior Boys, Manual. Includes one Philippines-only bonus track!

Due to numerous requests, World Champion Jed Madela's new album "Songs Rediscovered 2: The Ultimate OPM Playlist" is now made available as a single CD. The new version has a colored cover artwork but still contains all the 16 songs available in the 2CD edition. “Songs Rediscovered 2: The Ultimate OPM Playlist” is Jed's follow-up to his Double Platinum-certified album “Songs Rediscovered” released five years ago. The new CD features his interpretations of timeless OPM songs from the '80s and '90s by artists such as Sharon Cuneta, Basil Valdez, Ric Segreto, Raymond Lauchengco, Jose Mari Chan, Keno, Odette Quesada, Side A, Neocolours, Tito Mina, Jam Morales and more. Produced by the Platinum producer Ito Rapadas, the album's carrier singles are "I Need You Back" and "Give Me A Chance". Jed just finished shooting the music video for the second single "Give Me A Chance". "Songs Rediscovered 2: The Ultimate OPM Playlist" is now also available on MP3 and MP4 formats. Both formats contains all the songs (82 songs!) taken from his albums - "I'll Be Around", "Songs Rediscovered", "Only Human", "Songs Rediscovered 2" and "The Voice Of Christmas". The MP4 format contains all his music videos!

International Queen of Bossa Nova Lisa Ono releases two new albums simultaneously! The first CD "Look To The Rainbow-Jazz Standards From LA" was produced by Lisa and Bill Cantos, who is a singer, composer, pianist and has performed with Sergio Mendes, and also known for his detailed knowledge of Brazilian music. The sound concept of this album is, “Lisa Ono with chorus”. Every tune has a chorus, and two of the songs features renowned acapella group Take 6. Includes tracks like “My Funny Valentine”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “The Shadow Of Your Smile” and Norah Jones’ “Don’t Know Why”. The second CD "Cheek To Cheek-Jazz Standards From Rio" was produced by Lisa and Mario Adnet, a Brazilian guitar player, has been arranging many songs for Lisa many years. The sound concept for this album is, “Lisa Ono with horns”, and features Big Band classics such as Duke Ellington’s numbers, the top horn section, strings, and percussion musicians of Rio, Brazil. Includes tracks like “Fly Me To The Moon”, “The More I See You” “All Of Me”, “Cheek To Cheek,”, “Hello Dolly” and more!

Legendary, 8-time Grammy winning music icon Chaka Khan releases her excellent album of jazz standards and traditional pop classics, “Classikhan”, which she recorded with the renowned London Symphony Orchestra. Chaka’s song choices for “Classikhan” ran the musical gamut: “Hey Big Spender”, “I’m In The Mood For Love”, Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” “The Best Is Yet To Come”, Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is?”, James Bond’s themes "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Goldfinger" and Lulu’s “To Sir With Love”. There is also a new ballad, “I Believe”, a Khan-penned original. The album features guest appearances by pianist Joe Sample and percussionist Sheila E. “Classikhan” can be seen as a follow-up to the “Echoes of an Era” album Chaka Khan made with her all-star cast of jazz musicians in 1982. With an outstanding career now spanning 30 years, including eight Grammy Awards, 18 Grammy nominations, three platinum and seven gold albums, Chaka Khan’s stellar project like “Classikhan” will undoubtedly garner additional awards and hits.

In 2006, British rap-pop sensation Lady Sovereign signed with Jay Z's Def Jam label, secured an opening slot on Gwen Stefani's tour and sold more than a million units of her single "Love Me Or Hate Me", (becoming the first British female artist to reach no. 1 on TRL) and has collaborated with Basement Jaxx, The Beastie Boys and Pharrell Williams. In 2009, Lady Sovereign re-emerges with a whole new outlook, both musically and as a budding label owner. Her new album "Jigsaw" includes collaborations with club jammer producers Dr. Luke (Leona Lewis, Missy Elliott), Medasyn and Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Britney Spears) and has more electro-influenced dance numbers and less bang-hard beats. Interesting, slightly fast paced beats, with dancey samples, battle-like rhymes and eclectic musical decisions. This album definitely belongs in the '80s, '90s, and present. Includes "Let Be Mates", "Jigsaw", "I Got You Dancing!" and "So Human", which samples The Cure's classic "Close To Me".

Universal Records finally releases Kamikazee’s much-anticipated third album "Long Time Noisy" featuring the launching single “Wala”. "Long Time Noisy" is Kamikazee’s follow-up to their Double Platinum breakthrough album "Maharot", which was jumpstarted by the crossover radio hit “Narda”. The album also spawned hits such as “Martyr Nyebera” and “Seksi Seksi”. The band also came up with hits such as the Parokya Ni Edgar collaboration “The Ordertaker” and their rendition of APO Hiking Society's "Doo Bidoo”, which made the compilation tribute album "Kami nAPO Muna" one of the highest-selling albums in recent memory. Kamikazee’s longtime hard efforts finally paid off, making them one of the most in-demand rock bands in the live circuit, a multi-awarded band (winning NU107 Rock Awards as Listeners’ Choice and Song of the Year for “Narda”, for starters) and commercial endorsers for high-profile products such as Rexona and Smart.

The band took three long years to construct and record "Long Time Noisy" as the band balanced their grueling gig schedules and their serious desire to release the best album they can possibly come up with. And they did exactly that with their new album. The album was recorded at Tower of Doom studios with producer Eric Perlas (whose credits include The Out of Body Special Love Is…, Queso and Chicosci’s last albums) and includes collaborations with keyboardist Leo Saño of Corporate Lo-Fi, turntablist Biboy Garcia of Sinag and Queso, Maychelle Baay of Moonstar88, Ian Tayao of Queso, Reg Rubio of Greyhoundz and Chito Miranda of Parokya ni Edgar.
