Electronic Music DJ Kaskade releases new album "Dynasty"

For Kaskade, it's all about love. “It’s that simple,” says the California-based producer, songwriter and DJ. "And from that love comes the music,” he says. The proof is in "Dynasty", Kaskade’s sixth album, a 12-track journey where love has never been more apparent in his sound. "Dynasty" is the follow-up release to the massively successful "Strobelite Seduction", which garnered his four global hit singles “I Remember” and “Move For Me” which were both collaborations with deadmau5, then “Angel On My Shoulder” and “Step One Two.”

The first single, aptly titled "Dynasty," is a gritty production, smoothed out by the vocals of Haley, known to Kaskade fans the world over as the ethereal singer of "I Remember" and "Move For Me." There’s also the track “Only You” which features production work from none other than Tiësto. “That guy is the king, for sure,” remarks Kaskade, “but by no means am I trying to do what he does. We have very different styles.”

Yet, when Tiësto approached Kaskade, he saw the opportunity to develop something unexpected from both producers. The result is a blend of Tiësto’s signature pace of trance and Kaskade’s soulful swagger -- organic California underground meets big floor Euro. As easily as Kaskade is able to work with a major like Tiësto he can flip it right back into the indie space. “Fire In Your New Shoes,” featuring Dragonette’s Martina, delivers a rock-riffed, downtown cool, electro-pop sound sure to resonate all summer with the big city set.

To support the album, Kaskade is planning an extensive worldwide tour which will span through the end of 2010. In addition to appearing at several large festivals such as Coachella last April, he will also take up a residency this summer at the Encore Beach Club at Wynn Las Vegas. The multi-million dollar, 60,000 square-foot facility is the standard of poolside luxury, and Kaskade will be there to set the soundtrack to what will surely be the biggest pool party of summer 2010.

Amidst all the work and accolades in 2009, including a Best Remixer Award at the International Dance Music Awards and nominations for Best American DJ, Best Producer and Best Full Length DJ Mix, Kaskade’s sound still holds authentic to the underground. Highlighted by strong sales (#1 iTunes Dance for six weeks), consistent and high music chart placement (topping Billboard Hot Dance Airplay, iTunes Dance, BBC Radio and “most played record” on Sirius Dance Radio 2009), various TV and film licensing (“Gossip Girl,” "Sex and the City", "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Date Night" with Steve Carell and Tina Fey), 2009 was a hallmark year for Kaskade, a global superstar in his own right with a versatility that's unmatched in the electronic music world.

It’s a rare performer who can rock the pop-electro hipster crowd one night, then hop a plane to Brazil and play to 2.5 million partygoers at Carnival and in the same breath, drop into Los Angeles and sell out the historic Hollywood Palladium. Kaskade operates in a creative space full of versatility, originality and an ever-fresh element of surprise, whether performing or producing. As the go-to producer for taking pop hits and turning them into dance floor anthems—in the past year alone he remixed tracks for Lady Gaga and Beyonce, Timbaland, Keri Hilson, Little Boots and Empire Of The Sun. With the release of "Dynasty", 2010 promises to be his biggest year yet.

Zenbeatsblog | Kaskade's Dynasty overtakes Justin Bieber, lets fans remix new single

It’s somewhat old news but, last week, Kaskade’s new album, Dynasty, overtook Justin Bieber’s debut, My World 2.0, on the iTunes charts. Entering at fifth place, Dynasty pushed My World 2.0 out of the top ten spots. Although Dynasty has since slipped down to 59th place – the iTunes charts are far more capricious than the Billboard ranks – Dynastywas an indication that dance music is starting to have a larger presence. Be it through Lady Gaga’s influence or simply more fans, Kaskade knocking off Justin Bieber from the top of the charts shows that electronic dance music is becoming more visible.

Although Dynasty has been available for a few weeks as a digital download, the album was released in physical form last week. Accompanying the May 11 release date was an opportunity for fans to create a remix of first single “Dynasty.” Although the specific rules for the competition, sponsored by Beatport, are outlined in more detail above, any aspiring producer can download parts of the song through Beatport, remix them, and upload the remix to Beatport for the competition. Users and editors will vote on their top remixes and, from this pool, Kaskade and Ultra Records will pick their favorite, which will be released by Ultra. May 31 is the deadline for your remix, so, if you’re interested, download the track now and upload it before the month is over.

f(x)’s Interview with 10Asia

The f(x) girls held an interview with 10 Asia, though with the members’ upbeat and cheerful charisma, it almost seemed like they were filming their own variety show.

f(x) took on online questions submitted by netizens and even freely shared their own stories. While they are currently promoting their first comback mini-album titled ‘NU ABO‘ and have been now for weeks, the girls are still practicing everyday until dawn . Even so, the girls showed up early in the morning with a lively energy and smiles on their faces that even managed to cheer up the tired reporters.

10Asia: Alot of people submitted this question. How did you respond when you first read the lyrics for ‘NU ABO’?
Krystal: For me, I just couldn’t understand it.
Sulli: I kept thinking, ‘Whats kkhungdi kkungdi?’ (laughs)

10Asia: So, did you ask about the meaning?
Krystal: Actually, the word ‘mysteric’ is a made up word. There’s ‘mystery’, but there’s no such thing as ‘mysteric’. And it’s a song about blood types but when we sing about ‘unnie’, I was just confused (laughs). After we shot the music video, it made more sense.
Luna: While we went through the storyline, we thought about how we could interpret the song.

10Asia: Did you put in your own dance moves into the song?
Luna: Yes. If I thought of a move that we could do, I would go to our choreographer and ask them if it would fit. Victoria has said this before, but her high kick move was her own idea.

Super Junior M nominated for Best Singer Award at 21st Golden Melody Awards

Super Junior-M, the subgroup of 13-member boy band Super Junior, has been named a nominee at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards, according to the boys' agency SM Entertainment on Thursday.

Super Junior-M, consisting of seven members, namely Ryeowook, Donghae, Han Geng, Zhou Mi, Siwon, Kyuhyun and Henry, focus their activities in the Chinese market. Their mini-album "Super Girl," released in Asia during the latter half of last year, had topped several music charts including China, the Philippines and Thailand.

According to SM Entertainment on 27th May, the band would compete against local Taiwanese groups such as DaXiMen, Power Station and Come on! BayBay! for the title of best vocal group at the "21st Golden Melody Awards" to be held on June 26.

Various top Chinese artists including Karen Mok and Power Station are set to take part in the event which is seen as the Asian version of the U.S. Grammys and China's biggest music awards ceremony. Super Junior was the only foreign artist invited to last year's awards which they attended as presenters and performers.

The SM Entertainment rep commented, "Super Junior M was invited as special guests to attend the Golden Melody Award last year, and having being nominated this year, there has been much interests as to whether they will be the first Korean singers to win an award at the Golden Melody Awards."

Meanwhile, the award ceremony will be held on 26th June.

Super Junior: "We Want to Be Longest-Running Idol Group Ever"

Whenever the idol group Super Junior is mentioned, the modifier "Yeneung-dol" (idol group members who are showing superior talent on entertainment programs) always follows. Every member of Super Junior is actively participating in various entertainment programs, TV dramas, and musicals, but, at the same time, they have been failing to push their image as singers.

But, surprisingly, their third album entitled "Sorry, Sorry" sold more than 250,000 copies last year, and they ranked atop the album sales. In addition, their fourth album entitled "Bonamana," which was released recently, also sold 200,000 copies for the first order, and the total number of sales for only one week exceeded 100,000 copies.

Super Junior is differentiated from other idol groups who release mini album and are earning profits from the digital music market. In a recent interview with members of Super Junior, nine members out of thirteen members came out for the interview held in Apgujeong-dong.

One member, Kang In, had been caught in a crackdown on drunk drivers last year, and now he is planning to join the army, and Chinese member Han Kyung is now involved in a lawsuit with his agency SM Entertainment regarding his exclusive contract. Another member, Ki Bum, could not participate in the fourth album due to his busy acting activities. Also, Choi Si Won could not come to the interview as he had to receive medical surgery to remove an infection on his salivary gland.

As there are so many members in Super Junior, they could not have peaceful days last year, and had to go through hard times due to many unfavorable factors and rumors. During the interview, they talked about their feelings for what happened so far and they also said their ambition is to continue their activities until they reach their forties or fifties and host the "Super Junior Show" someday.

Followings are questions and answers with members of Super Junior.

Interviewer: You must have gone through significant distress due to some members’ personal problems.

Lee Teuk: It was hard for me when I had to smile even in a difficult situation when showing up for entertainment programs. In particular, I was shocked when I found out that Han Kyung has gone through a lawsuit. But, since we left his seat empty, I want him back all the time. Kang In is burning to participate in our activities these days, and he always gives us advice after monitoring our performances. I will do my best to keep "Super Junior" together until every member can join again.

Hee Chul: I was in a state of panic when my best friend Han Kyung left for China. I almost thought of withdrawing from the group because I was so depressed. I started getting more famous when I started acting, not as a member of Super Junior, and I was not as good at singing like some other members such as Ye Sung, Kyu Hyun, and Ryeo Wook, and not as good at dancing like other members such as Dong Hae and Eun Hyuk. But, members with whom I used to fight have stood by me and helped me in many ways. Only the fact that they are together with me suddenly became a great help and source of appreciation for me. In particular, Eun Hyuk helped me to change my mind. Thanks to him, I was tempted to do activities for our new album for the first time. I want to go back to the time when we released our first album and want to put forth my best efforts for activities.

Interviewer: Despite many unfavorable factors, your album sales, especially the sales of your third and fourth albums, are outstanding. Does it mean that the number of your fans has increased?

Lee Teuk: I was surprised that people are buying our fourth album as well. There are good things and bad things when we appear on entertainment programs. We may lose our image as singers, but at the same, I think that we can advertise ourselves to the public. Also, besides us, many other entertainers have sung "Sorry, Sorry" on many programs.

Hee Chul: When idol members show up on entertainment programs, it is easier for them to target teenage fans, but usually older viewers seem to like them. I think that appearing on an entertainment program is like a double-edged sword.

Interviewer: The title song of the fourth album, "Bonamama" sounds very similar to your previous hit song "Sorry, Sorry." Do you think that a certain style of the music has emerged for Super Junior?

Lee Teuk: When we listened to the song for the first time, we also thought that the song is very similar to "Sorry, Sorry." It is natural that people begin to compare those two songs. We put the name of "SJ (Super Junior) Funky" for songs which combine dance and electronic sounds, and reminds people of Super Junior. I also gave it a five star evaluation on the music website.

Interviewer: But, except the title song, I could find many simple melody songs which require outstanding singing ability.

Lee Teuk: In 2007, when the Super Junior unit "Super Junior K.R.Y." planned to release an album, Kyu Hyun had a car accident, so many good songs could not be included in the album at that time. And actually those good songs have come together with this new album. So, the portion of songs that require singing ability has been increased. For example, when I listened to the youngest member Ryeo Wook’s solo song entitled "Spring Day" repeatedly while I was driving, I almost felt like crying.

Interviewer: Do you think that you have more interest in music compared to the past, as you have already released four albums?

Lee Teuk: In debut, we just focused on recording songs. But, these days, we tend to present our opinions, saying, "What if we try this part this way?" when we arrange songs. In our previous album, Ryeo Wook’s own song was included, and for the repackaged album of the fourth album, which will be released soon, more songs that were made by other members will be included. I think it is time for our members to show off our talent in music.

Interviewer: Usually, the life expectancy of an idol group is regarded to range from three to five years. As Super Junior debuted in 2005, does it mean that Super Junior has already reached its lifespan?

Lee Teuk: You are totally right. I can imagine that people might look at us with the same viewpoint with which I looked at senior star singers such as H.O.T. and Shin Hwa, who already released their fourth and fifth albums when I was an aspiring singer. Sometimes, I think, "Do we have to stop performing as Super Junior?" But, these days, we perform not only in Korea, but also in other Asian countries, so only four or five years are not enough. We became popular after significant time had passed, so I think that it means that we can last longer.

Hee Chul: I and Lee Teuk are 28 years old now. I know there are many cute and fresh junior singers. But, I want to stress our longevity as we appear on various broadcasting, and at the same, I want to hold many performances whenever we release a new album. I like to perform on the stage because it is very exciting.

Interviewer: How do you think people regard idol groups?

Lee Teuk: I think that it is somewhat exaggerated. People say that the industries of advertisement, drama, and music have been conquered by idols, but actually there are not many programs with more than ten percent viewer ratings among programs in which idols appear. "Idol" means a target of admiration. Actually, many senior doyenne singers such as Cho Yong Phil, Na Hoon A, the group Fire Truck, Park Nam Jeong, and Seo Taiji and Boys used to be idols in their times. As time goes by, people just tend to remember that they were not idols. During any time, there were idols that people admire. The word "idol" is just much more focused and stands out more than before these days. As a member of an idol group, I feel sorry that people do not have an interest in the music, but rather in other additional factors, of idols.

Hee Chul: We wanted to break away from the image of idol groups in entertainment programs. When Shin Dong attaches a fake mustache and dresses himself up comically, he does not look like an idol group member, and moreover I am proud of him. Whenever Lee Teuk, Eun Hyuk, and Shin Dong come on SBS TV's "Strong Heart," they brainstorm for ideas like comedians do. But, sometimes I feel bad when I find out that people regard us as washed-up entertainers and criticize us rather than cheering for our efforts on the stage as singers and on the entertainment programs.

Interviewer: At this moment, when you released your fourth album, is it the time that you are trying to free yourself from idol groups?

Lee Teuk: When we debuted, we wanted to abandon the title of idol group. But, we have come this far as the idol group Super Junior, so I do not want to lose the idol title. Rather, I want to keep this title until we reach our forties and fifties and become senior star singers for a long time. As we have thirteen members, if only one member stands out per year, we can last for thirteen years. But, only less than half the members have become popular and have stood out until now. As we were recorded as having the largest number of members when we debuted, we want to break new records in the Korean music industry.

Yea Sung: There are also cultural differences. In the case of Japan, star groups such as SMAP and Arashi, who debuted a long time ago, are still gaining huge popularity. We want to be loved by people like those groups for such a long time for the first time in Korea. Even after we reach our thirties, we want to continue to release albums and have performances. As we see that our members become more acknowledged in various fields and our album sales are increasing, we might already have passed the limit as an idol group little by little as we approach our future goal.

Hee Chul: We want to make the "Super Junior Show," which enables us to communicate with people, like the program "SMAPxSMAP," which SMAP has been hosting in Japan.

Interviewer: Shin Dong has become a hot topic, as he proposed to his girlfriend using codes on the album jacket of the fourth album.

Shin Dong: I was surprised to see that fans had broken the codes so fast. I was wrong because I should not have put my personal messages on the album which was originally made for our fans. I am really sorry to the other members and our fans.

Hee Chul: I am sorry to our fans, but I think that he was very brave as a man. But, actually it was a shocking message for me, too. I did not even know that the message was so strong like that. [Marry me. I am proposing to you.]

Interviewer: How do you evaluate Choi Si Won’s acting, who just finished the drama "Oh! My Lady?"

Lee Teuk: His acting, especially his facial expressions, were much better than when he appeared in the movie "Battle of Wits." He has shown playful looks that he used to show us. When I looked at his acting when he drunkenly kissed a girl in the drama while he left the door of the refrigerator wide open, he looked so greasy.

U-Kiss Kiseop successfully putting in a coin into his nostrils, crowned Idol with the Best "Burst Nose"

U-Kiss Kiseop has become a hot topic for his ability to put 650 won coins into his nose.

During the filming of KBS JOY 'Idol League' that will be aired on the coming May 18th, Kiseop took part in the 'Catch A Mouse' game that was made popular by the past variety program 'Heroine 6'. During the game, they had to put 500 won, 100 won and 50 won coins into their nose, which is something bizarre and daring for idols to do.

The two MCs, Eun Jiwon and Moon Hee Jun, took the challenge first by putting a 500 won into their nose. However, both of them gave up due to the pain.  For the penalty, Kiseop has to put 500 won coins into both of his nostrils, showing a side of him that hasn't been shown before, which made the crew and the members burst into laughing.

U-KISS 'empty-headed' Kiseop's nostrils-in-action can be seen on the May 18th broadcast of KBS JOY 'Idol League' Episode 3, at 6:50 pm.

U-Kiss DongHo is a Lovechaser?

It seems that UKiss' very own maknae, DongHo, will be gearing up to be none other than a Lovechaser!

What exactly is a lovechaser you might say? Well, the cable channel of MBC Dramanet recently announced plans for the creation of a new variety show Love Chaser.

The show centers around top idols talking about their ideal type or current crush and their ways of “chasing love”. The confirmed MCs for this program seem to be Korea’s finest gagman-gagwoman lover Yoon Hyungbin and Jung GyeongMi. Of course, let’s not forget our lovechaser, DongHo! Perhaps he will talk about his “crush” on f(x)’s Sulli? With such a famous guest and MC, the show has already risen high in our expectations! The cute maknae will surely make us laugh with his innocence and personality!

U-Kiss member, Alexander and his father have tweeted about their disappointment but is optimistic that the show will still go on at a later date and hopes that fans will understand. Regardless, let’s just be patient and wait for good news.

Many thanks to Pongky for the information.

Dailykpopnews | Super Junior is Returning with the Strength of Idols

Super Junior, who are sweeping the charts with their 4th album "Beauty", usually consists of 13 members. However lately 10 have been appearing on stage. The reason lies in the good and bad times they experienced last year. Last year their 3rd album "Sorry Sorry" sold over 250,000 copies, becoming a "Mega Hit", however with Kangin and other members withdrawing from activities, they unintentionally fell into a slump.

Super Junior came out to talk to the press at a press conference in Apgujeongdong in Seoul on the 20th, excluding Choi Siwon, who was not well due to the rigours of filming his drama "Oh! My Lady". However they couldn't be "sorry sorry" about the reaction to their album. In only ten days since the release of their album, they had already exceeded 200,000 sales, and reached 1st place by a landslide on many music charts.

Super Junior, who are gaining popularity with their 4th album title song "Beauty"

Leeteuk: "This song and "Sorry Sorry" have a similar story. We too felt that it was similar at first. We think that songs with a combination of dance and electronica qualities might become associated with Super Junior. It's kind of like 'SJ(Super Junior) Funky'."

In the 4th album, there are also the first solo songs for Super Junior members. Ryeowook's emotional voice and a harmonious piano accompaniment came together for "Spring Day". At first glance it seems like a song about missing an ex-lover, but in reality it's a song filled with the emotions of the songwriter whose grandmother passed away. There is also Yesung and Kyuhyun's first duet, a mournful ballad entitled "Someone Like Me".

Their 1st and 2nd albums were overshadowed by their Dong Bang Shin Ki sunbaes, however the fever over their 3rd album turned them into a "Red Hot Idol Group".

Heechul: "In our trainee days, we saw that our sunbaes would usually retire after they released their 4th albums. These days, it seems like in the eyes of the public it's the same. However now because we're appearing on stages in not only Korea but all of Asia, we've extended our range."

Leeteuk and Heechul, who as the eldests of the group will be turning 28 in Korean years this year, said "In order to look younger we died our hair blonde." "We aren't planning to forget what we were like at the beginning. At first we wanted to shed the image of "idols" but nowadays we want don't want to throw away that title. If we can carry that honour, then we'll want to continue going with that image."*

*It is unclear which of them is saying this.

Allkpop | Super Junior finally speaks up about Hankyung

During an interview with various press members, Super Junior revealed their feelings regarding their Chinese member Hankyung’s absence.

These days, Super Junior has been promoting with ten members. Kangin is enlisting in the army soon, Kibum is concentrating on acting and Hankyung is caught in a legal feud with SM Entertainment.

Leeteuk commented,

“I think we forgot that Hankyung is Chinese because we worked with him for so long. It’s like how family members sometimes don’t share their feelings with each other because they see each other constantly. We didn’t really listen to each other’s problems. I thought about what a hard time Hankyung had to be in to do this. If he has a change of heart, his place is still empty so I hope he returns.”

Although Kangin and Kibum have been supporting Super Junior on their comeback, Hankyung has currently cut off his contact with the members. Let’s hope his issues with SM Entertainment are resolved soon!
