For years, she has dominated the local and international music scene as “Asia’s Songbird.” Now that she has married the love of her life, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid is ready to sing totally new songs, even one about settling down.
Fortunately for her numerous fans, this does not at all mean that she would quit her flourishing career; she just feels it is time to explore the other sides of her that nobody has seen: a housewife, a homemaker and, hopefully soon, a mother.
“I started my career when I was sixteen,” she explains. “I have been working for 25 years so I feel that now is my time to settle. Nagawa ko na lahat for my family so ako naman ngayon.”
The last statement couldn’t be truer. Although Regine considers herself very independent and tough, underneath is a conservative and religious individual who deeply values her family upbringing as the groundwork for her success. That’s why she reciprocates her blessings in every way she can.
Simply yet smartly, that’s how Regine sums up her childhood upbringing. Her father helped her train her voice by having her sing while neck-deep in the waters off Southern Leyte where she grew up. Her mother also helped her by teaching her how to move on stage and interpret songs; and she nurtured Regine’s budding talents in other ways as well.
“Even though we were not well off, marunong dumiskarte ang nanay ko,” she proudly says. “She made sure she gave us nutritious food and plenty of milk to drink. Laging may gulay at gatas akong iniinom kaya hindi ako sakitin.”
This habit has stayed with Regine all these years. That’s why she gives her support to the Laki Sa Gatas Nutrition Education Advocacy, which promotes among kids and their parents the importance of proper nutrition along with good education to turn their lives for the better and help them attain their ambitions.
The campaign – one of many being endorsed by the philanthropically inclined celebrity – reaches out to public school students and their moms all over the country, sharing the need to take on nutritious and affordable habits.

Universal Records Artists Win at 2011 MYX Music Awards
The 2011 MYX Music Awards was held Tuesday night, March 15, at the Music Museum in Greenhills. With black and white as the motif for the evening, MYX, the No.1 music channel, convened the biggest names in the music scene in one spectacular event.
Universal Records OPM artists Christian Bautista, Parokya ni Edgar and Regine Velasquez were present during the awarding ceremony to accept their MYX Awards.
Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista got two (2) awards - Favorite Remake for "Beautiful Girl" and Favorite Mellow Video for "I Remember The Girl" while Pambansang Banda Ng Pilipinas Parokya Ni Edgar received the Favorite Group Award.
MYX Magna Award Special Citation (for her contribution to the international music scene) was also awarded to Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid for her exemplary contributions in the music industry for more than 25 years.
Universal Records' K-Pop girl group 2NE1 got the Favorite K-Pop Video Award for "Go Away".

Singer Regine Velasquez is making sure everyone knows she is married to Ogie Alcasid by carrying his last name in the billing of her upcoming TV show.
The decision to use "Regine Velasquez-Alcasid" is solely hers.
“Ako ‘yung nagpalagay talaga kasi nga I want to carry it kasi siyempre proud ako. Hindi naman ganito, ganyan. Nakikita na lang niya. I really wanted to carry his name. Kaysa naman tinanggal ‘yung Velasquez,” she said.
As soon as she exchanged I do’s with Ogie last December, Regine promised to make her husband her priority.
“Siyempre gano’n naman talaga ‘pag nag-asawa ka na although sa ngayon nga hindi siya ang nagiging priority ko dahil may trabaho. Buti na lang very understanding siya,” she said.
With the couple’s busy schedule, there is limited time for them to be intimate with each other. Still, she welcomes having a baby and will take a rest when she gets pregnant.
“Kung talagang mangyayari, mangyayari, ‘di ba? Kung mangyari ‘yon then I have to give myself a rest. Sana hindi na muna pero hindi mo naman puwedeng i-hold. 'Lord, puwede ba ‘wag muna.' Whatever! Basta sa ngayon I’m just trying to take it easy. Working really hard for the show. Sana abangan n’yo. It’s really, really fun.”
Correcting the usual misconception among newlyweds, Regine says Ogie did not impose limitations on her career.
“Hindi ‘yon gano’n, eh. He also knows that I also don’t like that... na bigyan ako ng ano... alam ko naman, eh. Although minsan kakausapin niya ako. He’ll make me understand.... may asawa ka na. Wala siyang gano’n sa akin. Ako rin naman wala din akong gano’n. Kasi nga we’re in the same business."

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid na ang ginagamit na opisyal na screen name ng Asia's Songbird ngayon.
Ikinasal si Regine sa singer-songwriter-comedian na si Ogie Alcasid noong December 22, 2010 sa Nasugbu, Batangas.
Ayon kay Regine, sarili niyang desisyon ang pagdadala ng apelyido ni Ogie sa kanyang pangalan.
"Ako naman ang nagsabi nun, e. Una sa lahat, siyempre proud ako. I want to carry his name.
"Hindi ko naman tinanggal yung Velasquez—I'm Regine Velasquez-Alcasid!" pagmamalaki ng Asia's Songbird sa presscon ng kanyang bagong romantic-comedy series sa GMA-7, ang I ♥You Pare.
Ginanap ang presscon sa Boiler Room sa Riverbanks, Marikina City, kagabi, January 31.
Unang ginamit ng Asia's Songbird ang Regine Velasquez-Alcasid sa kanyang pagbabalik sa Sunday musical-variety show na Party Pilipinas two weeks ago.
Maging dito sa I ♥You Pare ay ganoon na rin ang pagpapakilala sa kanya.
"Actually, hindi niya alam na sa soap din ganyan," banggit ni Regine sa panayam sa kanya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at iba pang miyembro ng media.
NO ADJUSTMENT NEEDED. Bagamat mahigit isang buwan pa lamang kasal sina Regine at Ogie, ayon sa singer-actress ay wala na silang naging adjustment. Ito ay dahil matagal na silang nagsasama bago pa sila ikasal.
Aniya, "Kasi as soon as we got engaged, just a few months, we lived together na, e. But we were already engaged...

Ang madalas na pag-ulan ang dahilan kung bakit na-delay ang shooting ng indie film na Mrs. Recto.
Ito ang sabi ni Regine Velasquez sa Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) nuong Huwebes, January 27, during the taping of her new show on GMA-7, ang I Heart You Pare.
"Medyo na-delay lang kami nang konti kasi nung time na ginagawa namin iyon, it kept raining. E bilang sa Recto kami nagsu-shoot, hindi namin puwedeng dayain.
"Okay lang yun kasi the character is... kumbaga medyo may pagka-timeless siya," paliwanag ni Regine sa indie movie niyang Mrs. Recto, na si Dante Garcia ang direktor. "Unlike yung sa amin ni Aga."
She was referring to her third movie with Aga Muhlach under Viva Films and directed by Joyce Bernal. The project has been plagued with delays due to conflicts in their schedules.
"Parang kailangan kasi di ba 'pag romantic comedy siyempre nagkakaroon na ng ibang style, may iba ng team-up so parang..." pagpapatuloy ni Regine.
At nagpakasal pa siya.
"Yeah, may ganun na so parang..."
Nawala na ang kilig?
"Hindi naman, I'm sure nandun pa rin yung kilig. Andun pa rin yung kilig kasi may magic naman kaming dalawa but sana lang matapos na," aniya.
Matagal na raw silang hindi nagkakausap ni Aga pero wala raw silang gap. In fact, inimbitahan niya ang aktor sa kasal nila ni Ogie Alcasid.
"I invited him pero he said that he couldn't go. Nagpasabi siya kaya okay iyon. Tsaka kami ni Aga, even if I don't speak to him for a long time, we're okay. We got over [what happened] before na nabubuwisit ako sa kanya," ang tumatawang pahayag ni Regine.
"Tapos na ako sa ganun, natapos na kami dun sa phase na yun. Friends na kami, super-friends na kami."
Would she consider doing another movie with Robin Padilla?
"Hindi ko lang alam."
How about a movie with Ogie?
"Do you think it's a good idea for us to do a movie together?" tanong ni Regine.
"Ako, ang gusto ko, sitcom. Kaming dalawa. Sitcom about newly weds na parang may pagka-reality show pero hindi. Ano pa rin, fiction pa rin pero parang kami talaga... Parang exciting, nakakatawa yun, e.
"Gusto ko ipakita yung totoong wedding talaga, mga ganun."
DREAMS. May mahihiling pa ba si Regine sa buhay niya bukod sa anak?

Nakausap ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portl) ang Asia's Songbird na si Miss Regine Velasquez sa taping ng bago niyang show para sa GMA 7, ang I Heart You Pare, sa Boiler Room Bar sa Marikina nitong Huwebes, January 27.
Ang una naming itinanong kay Regine ay kung mahirap ba na for the first time ay gaganap siya bilang isang babaeng nagkukunwaring bakla.
"I thought it's going to be easy, since feeling ko naman bakla ako but apparently, still I'm not," ang natatawa nitong sinabi.
Sino ang peg niya for the role?
"Tinuturuan kasi ako ni Direk, e, so parang siya," sabi ni Regine na ang tinutukoy ay ang director nilang si Direk Andoy Ranay.
Ano ang challenge sa role niya?
"It's very challenging for me coz first of all, I have to create the main character, Tonia, the girl, before I can do Tonette, [who pretends to be gay].
SWITCHING ROLES. "Kasi once in a while, siyempre nawawala siya sa sarili niya, bumabalik yung Tonia. So more or less, nung alam ko na yung Tonya, it was a little bit easier for me to switch.
"But at the beginning it's hard, hindi pa ako masyadong clear dun sa character nung Tonia but siyempre nung nag-meeting-meeting, nagte-taping, pinagdidiskusyunan yung character, so ayun, I got used to it. It's easier now to just switch to the girl character."
Sa Diva dati, pinapangit siya, dito ginawa siyang bakla. Hindi ba siya nag-request sa GMA na bigyan siya ng serious at matinong role?
"Hindi! Yung next ko halimaw na ako! Papunta na dun, e. Gusto nila yung hindi ako matino masyado," pagbibiro ng Songbird.
"Pag mas... character-driven yung role, it's better for me because minsan mas mahirap gumanap nung malapit sa character mo, e. Kasi parang nadadala mo sa bahay.
"Like with Diva, pag wala na yung make-up, I'm back to myself," aniya.
"So it's the same thing here, although once in a while bakla pa rin ako, pero naaano ko naman siya."
WORKING WITH DINGDONG. Matagal na yung huling project nila ni Dingdong Dantes sa pelikulang Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka. Dito sa I Heart You Pare, may naging adjustment ba sila?
"Wala! And you know you'll be surprised, I dunno if you've seen the trailer pero ang ganda ng chemistry namin, nakakakilig siya actually. So hopefully, people will see the chemistry and will enjoy the show. It's very funny!"
Describe Dingdong bilang leading man niya ngayon...
"He's ano, sobrang serious siya sa role niya. I mean talagang kinakarir niya."

Celebrate the month of love with YES! magazine as the much-awaited union of Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez headlines its February issue. Over 200 photos of the star-studded wedding are spread across 40 pages, where Ogie and Regine talk about the beginnings of their romance, their dark years, and their family.
"To marry her was a dream," Ogie tells YES!, "There was a part of me that thought it would never happen." After nearly two years since he filed a petition for the annulment of his marriage to former beauty queen Michelle Van Eimeren, the annulment was finally granted last June 21, 2010.
Upon learning that Ogie's marriage was annulled, Regine became emotional despite the fact that she was no longer hoping for a marriage and was simply content to be with him.
"Of course, it'd be nice, you know, kung maging asawa talaga ako. Siyempre, dream naman ng lahat ng babae 'yon," she tells YES!. "So no'ng nakuha na niya [Ogie] finally, naiyak ako, kasi parang feeling ko, parang he can now start his life with me and, you know, he doesn't have to think about it anymore, he doesn't have to keep fighting for me, you know. That's how I felt."
With the court's decision, the two-year wait finally came to an end. The singer-songwriter and Asia's Songbird wed last December 22, 2010 at The Peak in Terrazas de Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The wedding would not have been complete without the people that Ogie and Regine consider their family: Ogie's ex-wife Michelle Van Eimeren and her husband Mark Morrow—who flew in from Australia a few days before the ceremony together with Ogie and Michelle's daughters, Leila and Sarah.
Spotted at the Alcasid-Velasquez nuptials were President Noynoy Aquino with his sister Kris Aquino (who also happens to be Regine's best friend); Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres-Gomez, Senator Bong Revilla, Gloria Diaz, Michael V, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, fashion designer Rajo Laurel, network bigwigs Manny Pangilinan of TV5 and Atty. Felipe Gozon of GMA-7, and other showbiz personalities and friends of the couple.
YES! also gives a sneak peak into the couple's wedding preparations, the venue and the wedding decor, Ogie and Regine's weddings rings, and a copy of their wedding vows. Now that she's officially Mrs. Ogie Alcasid, Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez faces the next big question after marriage, the question about pregnancy. After all, Regine has constantly been the subject of pregnancy rumors long before their wedding.
"I understand naman kasi people are really excited for us. Like, before we got married, everybody was asking, 'when are you getting married?' Now that we're finally married, 'when are you gonna have a baby?' Ganun naman yan e. Basta, sa akin, sa aming dalawa ni Ogie, I don't want to put pressure on both of us kasi mahirap e. Mas lalong di darating," Regine said in a live interview with "Showbiz Central" last Sunday.
She added, "Of course, I'm very aware of my age. We're open naman to all kinds of whatever. That's reality e."
Taking a break. The couple plans to concentrate on having a baby after Regine finishes taping for her upcoming GMA show "I Heart You, Pare" and after a possible concert this April or May. The original plan, she said, was to take a break this March, but delays in the taping of her show made them push their plans later this year.
"We'll try it in the normal way first. And then, kung hindi pa rin, next year, I might have to take a break for the whole year," she said.
But even before the break, Regine is already preparing herself for the changes that will come once she focuses on getting pregnant.
"Kasi actually, ang totoo, naeenjoy ko to be at home and to take care of my husband. Pero at the same time, sanay ko na nagtratrabaho. Bata pa lang ako nagtatrabaho na ako. So I'm trying to prepare myself. Saka (sinasanay) ko yung sarili ko para emotionally and physically, sanay ako na hindi gagalaw. That's why I'm gonna try it na slow down a little bit," Regine added.
The couple is also open to other options such as artificial insemination.
"For both of us kasi, reality na yun kasi nga yung age ko. So OK lang yun," Regine said. "I mean, kung talagang makakatulong yun, pero di pa rin yun 100 percent. Like I said, ang 100 percent lang si Lord. Kung madecide Nyang bigyan kami ng baby, my God, I'll be so happy."

Regine Velasquez said that she has husband Ogie Alcasid’s blessing to continue working even after they got married last December 22. Regine is slated to star in a teleserye soon. “Ogie does not want me to stop [working]. Although alam ko naman kung kailangan ko rin namang mag-stop pero ngayon kaya pa naman. Enjoy pa naman ako. ‘Yung mga tao pa naman parang gusto pa rin naman akong madinig at makita so I’m happy about that,” she related.
The 40-year-old singer also explained that she is not pressured to get pregnant. “Kung mabubuntis, eh ‘di okay. Kung hindi okay lang din,” she justified. “I don’t want to think about it anymore. It was a personal choice naman not to have a baby right away.”
Regine previously revealed that she and Ogie had been living together for three years before they got married. It also took them a while before they finally admitted that they had been in a relationship because many detractors criticized their relationship.
Regine also added that she has no regrets of her decision to tie the knot with Ogie. “It was a personal choice because I wanted to do so many things. I wanted to travel, kasi nga kumakanta ako. Nung binigyan ako ng pagkakataon to decide on my own, I wanted to direct my concert, I was given the chance to do that, or to do films, to host although I’m not a very good host. I was still given the chance to do that,” she continued. “Gusto ko kasi bago ako mag-settle down nasabi ko na sa sarili ko na na-try ko nang gawin. Kahit hindi man ako naging successful kung anuman ‘yung gusto kong gawin, ‘di man ako nag-succeed at least na-try ko.”
After her civil wedding with Ogie, (since Ogie’s church wedding with Michelle Van Eimerenn is not yet annulled), the newlyweds are taking a three-week vacation before they go back to work. Regine shared that after their honeymoon, she will immediately go back to taping her upcoming teleserye with Dingdong Dantes.
