“Oh yes!” she beams. “I play a colorful character in the story. In Tagalog, I’m a ‘babaeng bakla’ here because I would pretend to be a drag queen and live in the world of gays. Actually, the show is a fusion of romance, drama, comedy and musical. I’m sure the viewers will like it!”
This early, many are already anticipating the song and dance numbers she’ll have in the show.
“That’s really something to look forward to. I’ll have lots of grand production numbers, although I’ll not be using my own voice. I’ll just lip-synch since my character is pretending to be gay. Nevertheless, I assure that viewers will get delighted with these fabulous musical spots apart from the outrageous costumes and makeup.”
If in her previous show Diva, the singer-actress gave an unforgettable portrayal, she promises the same here in I Heart U Pare.
“I know that the Melody role I played in Diva was hard to do but it’s also the same here in I Heart U Pare. The character of Tonia is complicated as well. Imagine, she’s a girl pretending to be gay, then later on will pretend to be a guy. I have to make the character of the girl whole first before I can effectively extend it to her alter egos. It’s not that easy, but I know I can handle it,” explains Regine.
Top Kapuso heartthrob Dingdong Dantes is her leading man in the program.
“It’s our maiden collaboration on the small screen. We first worked together in the movie, Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka years ago. It’s always a wonderful experience working with Dong. For one, he’s very professional and loves his craft so much.
“It’s good that he feels very excited with the project. Even before, I already noticed his focus. He’s the type who studies his role up to the last detail. We’ve already shot scenes together and the instant chemistry was there!”
In one of his recent interviews, Dingdong admitted he gets distracted with her every time she’s in her gay character.
“Yes! He always laughs whenever I deliver my lines with matching facial expressions and hand gesticulations. Ha-ha-ha! Actually, this is what’s good about romantic comedies: it’s so light to do. You can always play with the character. I’m thankful that this is the project assigned to me while Ogie (Alcasid) and I are at the height of our wedding preparations.”
