Malaya.com | The classics, Jed Madela style

It’s said you should never mess with a classic.

Then call Jed Madela a very brave - and talented - singer.

Jed breathes new life to songs such as "What I Did For Love," "Let Me Try Again," "I Believe," "Love Story," "It’s Impossible," "Portrait of My Love," "Softly As I Leave You," "An Affair to Remember," "Times of Your Life," "A Time for Us," "Walk Away," "Somewhere," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing," and "Moonriver" in his "The Classics Album," from Universal Records.

The singer’s haunting performance of these beautiful songs, tweaked just right, will be enjoyed by a whole new generation of music lovers and give fans of these standards a reason to rejoice.

The grand champion of the 2007’s World Championships of Performing Arts said choosing the songs was not an easy task.

"Kami ng Universal Records with my management, we came up with a long list of songs. We had a hard time choosing which to include but we believe we’ve come up with a collection that everybody will treasure. Walang tapon sa collection. These are songs we grew up listening to and we can somehow relate with," he said. "In a way napagdaanan na natin in our personal lives."

Jed admitted to growing up hearing these melodies of his parents and grandparents.

"‘Let Me Try Again’ is my mom’s theme song for my dad," said Jed.

His updated version of the standards allow people to re-discover these old favorites.

"These songs don’t sound old, parang bago but not necessarily nawala ‘yung puso nung song. We had the goal of bridging the gap between parents and kids with this album and we hope this becomes an instrument of bonding parents and kids."

Jed and Universal Records clearly accomplished that goal via "The Classics Album," which comes in a handsome package which goes very well with the musical gems in the album.

With Madela, popularly referred to as "The Voice," it’s safe to say that a classic is in safe hands.
