“Long Time Noisy”, Kamikazee, Universal Records
Compared to its predecessor, “Maharot,” the diversions in “Noisy” are not out of place at all.
One of these is promotional single, “Wala,” a cynical social commentary song that is uncharacteristic of the band. Though it has a long way to go from Dong Abaya or Joey Ayala in terms of lyrics, the music is effective with its catchy hook that engages listeners to answer back despite themselves.
The highlight in this song is the political candidate speech satire (“ano kayo hilo? ako muna bago kayo”). The album-only outro shows the band’s fun attempt at vocal harmonizing.
As a tribute to the late Francis Magalona, Kamikazee covers the Master Rapper’s “Meron Akong Ano” (which was used as jingle of a beverage product advertisement in the 80s). “Lalandiin” is a funky, disco-flavored spoken word song that puts a hilarious D.O.M. twist to “Macho Guwapito” and “Mr. Suave” (“Iaahon kita sa putikan”, “gusto mo ba ng load...eh sari sari store?”).
“Ikaw” and “Hanggang Tingin” will suit the fans of “Narda.” “Eschoos Me” will rouse the rakistas. The songs “4:20”, “Unang Tikim” and “Hot Mami” bring on the double entendres.
