Push.com.ph | Gary Valenciano says he will continue reaching out to his fans online
by James Cantos
03/13/2011 09:26 PM
“I want to apologize sa lahat ng followers kahit nasa 40,000 pa lang, but we’re rebuilding the site again. The Facebook account is Gary Valenciano Official, that’s the official Facebook page of Gary V.,” dagdag pa ng singer. Mayroon din siyang mensahe para sa hacker ng kanyang account. “Sa mga nag-hack naman sa site ko, congratulations! It’s not going to stop me from reaching out to people in a special way,” seryosong pahayag ni Gary.
Maging ang anak ni Gary na si Gab ay apektado rin sa mga nangyari. “To all those people who hack, I know magaling kayo sa computer, pero guys out of respect lang, I hope you respect not just me, or my family. I hope you can respect everybody else. Yung Facebook, Twitter, Multiply, Myspace, we do it because we want to connect to our friends, our family, our fans. I hope you can respect that na hindi n’yo kami lolokohin ng ganito. May God bless you pa rin and I pray that sa susunod di n’yo na gawin,” emosyonal na pahayag ni Gab.

STIR.ph | Gary V. LIVE at Eastwood and McKinley!
After the phenomenal success of his historic collaboration with Martin Nievera in the Manila repeat of their groundbreaking concert AS 1 and his much awaited comeback that happened last September at Music Museum in his solo series Soul In Motion, Gary Valenciano returns to the concert stage in a series of free concerts at Eastwood Mall Open Park on December 10 (Friday, 7 PM) and at Mckinley Hill Venice Piazza on December 11 (Saturday, 8 PM).
This series is also in line with the release of his current full-length, studio album under Universal Records entitled Replay, Gary V’s 25th full-length studio album under Universal Records. Its thematic concept is centered on the idea of providing Gary V’s previously recorded songs, culled from his past multi-platinum albums, a second chance in the mainstream since they did not make it on the top of the charts at the time of their release. These songs were not as popular, even bordering to being relatively unknown, as compared to the monster hits that other songs in their respective CD collections they belong to have become. Some may consider the song selections in Replay to be overshadowed or upstaged by the other certified hit songs of Gary V, hence they are somewhat overlooked by some fans, even neglected...

Yahoo! SEA | Gary Valenciano and other OPM stars attend songwriting camp in Dumaguete
Written by Sam Jacoba
for Yahoo! Southeast Asia
The 1st Elements National Songwriting Camp was overflowing with the talent of its campers—up-and-coming songwriters, established artists, and music industry stalwarts. The event, which was organized by 7101 Music Nation, allowed 60 participants to talk shop with some of the music industry’s most respected players, who served as their mentors.
The mentors did not just commune with the campers, but they jammed the night away night after night in the camp.
Then again, the star of the five-day event, which was held from November 14 to 18, was not any of the celebrated artists who flew in to share their expertise. The spotlight was on music itself.
Musical legacy:
The campers discussed the crucial role of songwriters in using music to shape people, culture, and the country as a whole.
“Music is the purest expression of our mind and soul, and it was never meant to be kept to ourselves,” said singer-songwriter Gary Valenciano. “Songwriters always say something and we want people to listen to what we say.”
The greatest challenge for today’s songwriters is to be heard. It’s still a problem—even with radio, TV, as well as the added creative platforms on the Net, the ubiquity of the iPod, and cell phones that can play music.
By request:
“Songwriters should not be worried about being heard or not. It took me several years to go mainstream,” said Noel Cabangon. “At 45, I have become a pop artist.” Cabangon’s “Mabuting Pilipino,” written in 1997, became one of the “anthems” of President Noynoy Aquino when he campaigned last May.
“More than ninety percent of the songs that I write won’t be heard. I do not write for commercial purposes,” shared Gary Granada, who delivered one of the most moving presentations in the camp.
Lyrical passion:
Granada also encouraged the campers to write music with a passion. “You cannot write something that you don’t know anything about. Be a subject matter expert in things that you write,” he said.
Granada’s statement was echoed by Jim Paredes who encouraged campers to rise above the rest by mastering their craft. He emphasized: “Good artistry is an elite experience. You should be a cut above the rest. Turning ordinary into extraordinary is what it’s all about.”
Jun Sy, CEO of 7101 Music Nation, can certainly attest that music can change lives. “If music can change a person, specifically, entrepreneurs like me, then I believe that music can change a nation,” he said. He then revealed that John Lennon’s “Imagine” was one of the songs that inspired him and has influenced how he manages TAO Corporation, the mother firm of 7101 Music Nation.
Inspired collaboration:
Sy envisioned the camp together with composer Ryan Cayabyab, and 7101 Music Nation COO Twinky Lagdameo. Their goal was to create platforms that would bring together Filipino songwriters, musicians, and artists from various genres or disciplines to celebrate the country’s musical diversity.
To stimulate collaborative work, campers were divided into 12 groups. Each group was tasked to come up with one song that would be presented in the camp. Three of the songs were reportedly signed up by MCA Music Inc. and Star Records.
MCA Music Inc. general manager Ricky Ilacad encouraged the campers to continue writing music. He also gave them tips on how to create hits. “The important thing is for you to keep on writing songs. Your song will be a hit with the right timing. Consumers have certain moods, and these moods follow a certain cycle, and it could be months or years for your songs to become a hit,” he said.
For his part, Joey Ayala told the campers to break new grounds and to take risks. “Expose yourself to the possibilities of doing something great by always pushing it. The major, major things that happen in your lives are all black swans,” he said, referring to ultra rare occurrences of runaway breakthroughs.
Crucial issues:
The event also highlighted the concerns of the music industry.
Angeli Valenciano, president of Manila Genesis Entertainment & Management, Inc., stated that “the respect for music” should be brought back first. “Why do we allow those who cannot carry a tune to sing on TV?” she asked. She said that the whole education system should also be improved end-to-end specifically for music to progress and prosper. She also discussed the possibility of establishing a radio station dedicated to Filipino music.
Rico Blanco, on the other hand, said, “The major TV and radio networks should become proactive partners of the OPM industry.” He added that media people should help build a positive image of local musicians. He then reiterated the need to eliminate piracy.
Debbie Gaite, general manager of the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Inc. (Filscap), explained the importance of managing their copyright. She related, “Freddie Aguilar wrote ‘Anak,’ but he did not know that he already have given its copyright to a record label, so even he was restricted from using it.”
Gaite revealed that the publishing rights fees Filscap collected for its members has been growing consistently since 2005. Gaite expects Filscap revenues to hit P83M in 2011.
Future festival:
“We are very satisfied with the results of the camp,” said Cayabyab. “We selected mentors whom we believe will be selfless and share their experiences. What we did not anticipate is how the mentors have affected each other through their sharing.”
Sy sees the camp evolving into a music festival that will begin an unprecedented music movement, not just in Dumaguete, but the whole country.
Camper Bullet Dumas, who was encouraged by his girlfriend to join the qualifying stage for the camp, shared how the camp has strengthened his dream to write music. Similarly, Dani Zamar, who hails from Dumaguete and was encouraged by her parents to try out for the camp, has resolved to further hone her music skills. Already a registered nurse, Zamar is now a music freshman at Silliman University.
“The camp did not just impact the campers but the mentors as well,” revealed Ebe Dancel, lead singer of Sugarfree. This sentiment was also shared by the other mentors such as Top Suzara, Chito Miranda, Gabby Alipe, Yael Yuzon, Jay Durias, and Rico Blanco, among others. “The goal is always to write good songs,” Dancel added. “My passion for song writing was reignited by this event.”

Gary V. launches 28th album "Replay"
Gary V. has a new CD out!
In celebration of his 27th year in the local entertainment industry, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano released his 28th album called “Replay.” The said album is composed of 17 songs that were previously recorded by Gary; re-engineered to have its “current sound”.
In contrary to his all-hits album “Greatest Hits”, the songs included in “Replay” were the “unpopular” ones, the not hits, so to speak. These songs may not be charttoppers before but they were equally as good.
Some of the 17 digitally re-mastered tracks included in Replay are “One hello,” “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,” “And I Love You So,” “Home,” “Tell Me,” “Kailan Pa,” “Alam Ko Na,” and “More and More” among many other romantic and unforgettable songs.
The carrier single of Replay is the romantic ballad “Did It Ever.” Paul Soriano directed the music video of “Did It Ever” and it is currently airing on MYX. To vote for “Did It Ever” on MYX, type in MYX (space) VOTE (space) DID IT EVER and send to 2366.
Replay is released by Universal Records and it’s available in all record bars nationwide.

Phil. Star | Gary V hopes old songs get second chance at the charts
by Ricky L. Calderon

Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera taped the final episode of their game show "Twist and Shout" last Friday. Gary V said their contract for the show is good for one season only.
"Our contract is only for one season. We actually went over for a few weeks. It's been a great ride for both Martin and I," said Gary V at the press launch of his new, full-length studio album titled "Replay," under Universal Records.
Will he miss the show? "I will miss the show very much, especially when I'm on Twitter, tapos may nagsasabi na, oh we're watching 'Twist and Shout' now. Especially people from abroad, na very stressful ang way of life, they say that watching 'Twist and Shout' over the weekend is like a stress-reliever for them. [So] I will miss it certainly. Now if ABS-CBN comes up with another show like this, I don't mind being a part of it," said Mr. Pure Energy.
Now, Gary V's also busy with his return to the recording scene via "Replay." This is Gary's 25th full-length studio album and its concept is centered on the idea of providing Gary V's previously recorded songs-all culled from his past multi-platinum albums-a second chance in the mainstream, since they did not make it to the top of the charts at the time of their release.
The album's carrier single is titled "Did It Ever" which Gary performed at his most recent concert series at the Music Museum titled "Gary V: Soul In Motion." The said song was included in the album "Relevance" which spawned such hits as "Wait Forever" and "Shake It Off."
If we would be willing to give a second chance to a person, would we be open to granting a second chance to a song from the past to become today's hit? Get a copy of "Replay" and find out for yourselves.

Gary Valenciano's newest album "Replay" out now!
After his successful and historic collaboration with Concert King Martin Nievera in their “AS 1” commemorative CD, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano returns to the recording scene with the much-awaited and highly-anticipated release of his latest solo, full-length CD under Universal Records entitled “Replay.”
It should be noted that “Replay” is Gary Valenciano’s 25th full-length studio album under Universal Records and its main thematic concept is centered on the idea of providing Gary’s previously recorded songs, culled from his past multi-platinum albums, a second chance in the mainstream since they did not make it on the top of the charts at the time of their release. These songs were not as popular, even bordering to being relatively unknown, as compared to the monster hits that other songs in their respective CD collections they belong to have become. Some may consider the song selections in “Replay” to be overshadowed or upstaged by the other certified hit songs of Gary Valenciano, hence they are somewhat overlooked by some fans, even neglected.
This time, these songs take the spotlight in “Replay” and it is very surprising and refreshing to know that these songs are as relevant today as when they were recorded several years ago.
For example, in his recent sold-out concert series “Gary V: Soul In Motion,” which happened at the Music Museum, Gary V wowed the crowd in a segment which showcased some the tracks found in “Replay.” Gary performed “Ohhh” and the CD’s carrier single “Did It Ever.” Music lovers and most interestingly, loyal Gary V fans were surprised to learn that “Did It Ever” was included in the album “Relevance” which bore such hits as “Wait Forever” and “Shake It Off.” “Did It Ever” sounds fresh, innovative, and clearly very much ahead of its time since it resonates the distinct sound and artistry of current pop/alternative songs—hip, edgy, melodic, and very strong in terms of recall. In “Ohhh” a song which was included in the album “Rebirth,” which produced such hits as “When I Hear You Call,” Gary’s strong spirituality is very apparent as he raps and belts out his strong and inspiring Christian convictions.
Some of the 17 digitally re-mastered tracks included in “Replay” are “One Hello,” “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,” “And I Love You So,” “Home,” “Tell Me,” “Kailan Pa,” “Alam Ko Na,” and “More and More” among many other romantic and unforgettable songs.
The "Replay" CD comes with a 2011 Gary Valenciano Desktop Calendar.
“Replay” is released by Universal Records and it’s available in all record bars nationwide. Paul Soriano directed the music video of “Did It Ever”.

Mla Bulletin | Gary V denies "Replay' a sign of "musical drought"
by Neil Ramos
October 6, 2010, 4:22pm
Share
MANILA, Philippines - Quick to refute allegations that he had run out of musical ideas is singer-songwriter Gary Valenciano.
In a recent meeting with the press, Valenciano merely laughed at the accusations even as he denied his new album, “Replay”, which is made up of old songs culled from past albums, is filler of sorts to satisfy contractual constraints.
“No,” said he. “I wouldn’t do that ever. I respect my fans so much. And for the record, Universal [Records, his recording company] didn’t put me up to this. This is my idea.”
According to Valenciano, he thought of putting all 15 songs together [plus two bonus cuts] in one album because he felt these “weren’t given the right amount of exposure” at the time they were released.
“Friends and fans alike would come up to me and ask why this and that song weren’t played on the radio. Some of them would even go, ‘Is that you?’, ‘Is that a new song?’ And I’m always like, ‘No. They were in this and that CD.’ The idea of putting all these songs together just kind of developed through the years,” he explained.
Valenciano said he personally picked the songs that were included in the album. He denied having “retouched” the tracks to suit current taste.
“I was tempted, I have to admit, ‘cause some of them were really old and there are bits that sounded very '80s, very '90s…but in the end I decided to stick with it.”
Valenciano said he was “surprised” that some of the songs sound as fresh as the day they were recorded.
“May times na nagugulat ako [with the songs]. Some of them retained much of their kick and energy. Best of all they fit in the current musical landscape,” said he.
A favorite at the moment is the track, “Home.”
“It might change in the coming weeks but it kind of speaks to me, you know? I listen to it and really feel the emotion [in the lyrics] and the flow of the melody just grabs me.”
The promotional single, “Did it Ever,” was suggested by his son, Paolo, who is also a musician.
“I was telling him to use it for his band and he was like, ‘No dad, I think you should do it.’ He told me that it will be very different from what I had released in the past and that it sounds very much like, ‘now.’ And he’s right.”
Valenciano insisted that he still a lot to offer the music industry, hinting at various ideas he wanted to get into in the near future.
“I’m still very passionate about what I do. I still want to go out there and just surprise people. I still have so many ideas that I’ve yet to start working on. I’d like to do musical scores for movies, I’d like to work with my kids, who are also good musicians in their own right…I have so many things in my mind actually. Thinking about the [work I’ve yet to do] is already very exciting for me and I look forward to being able to create more [music] and share them with everyone.”
An idea that Valenciano has already started working on is an instrumental album.
“I already wrote some of the songs. The idea [for the album] is to grab people through the melodies alone. I have titles which will somehow hint on the emotion of the song pero bahala na ang mga tao with what they would feel with each song.”
There is no time frame but Valenciano hopes to have the album out soon.
“What I’ll do is release it in like a two-CD album. The first one will be kind of bare bones, a simple instrumental, while the other CD will have a full orchestra. And you know what? I’ll give it away for free. Just put it out there.”

Yahoo: Fit to Post | Gary V gets rejected, too!
by Gerry Plaza,
Yahoo! Southeast Asia
When one thinks of Gary Valenciano, he or she would most instantly conjure up superlatives like the consummate OPM performer, the most awarded recording artist, the biggest concert crowd drawer, and the most passionate and admirable musician.
Even if gold and platinum records and other awards and trophies fill up his entire home, there are those times when Gary V, quite inexplicably, does not produce a hit, or even gets rejected.
Gary revealed on Wednesday that his rendition of Joey Albert’s classic ballad “Tell Me” was actually rejected by Star Cinema as theme song of its 2007 movie “A Love Story,” which starred Maricel Soriano, Aga Muhlach and Angelica Panganiban.
“It was a result of miscommunication,” Gary said. “They wanted something close to the original so they instead re-recorded a version of the song by its original singer, Joey Albert.”
His version of the song had featured an entirely new arrangement and rendition, which offered a fresh take on the 1980s hit that emphasized Gary’s wide vocal range and soulful interpretation. During the production, Gary had spent days and sleepless nights working on the song, collaborating with the song’s composer, Louie Ocampo, and Aga.
When the production was complete and the demo was presented to Star Cinema, Gary was shocked with the feedback.
“There were comments when they came back to me,” Gary tells Yahoo! Southeast Asia. “(They said) No, we will speed it up digitally. (I said) No, you are not going to touch anything there. (Then they said) No can you change the intro and make it sound like the original. Until finally they said, we’re going to use na lang (Joey Albert’s version).”
It was a rejection that affected Gary so much, that he “became depressed” for a few days...
“It got to me for a while. But I recovered when other people would hear it and they would say it was great? I don’t think many people know that I actually did ‘Tell Me’ or I tried to do ‘Tell Me’ because it was rejected,” Gary said.
Gary said he put the song aside until he and Universal Records decided to release his 28th album overall, “Replay,” a compilation of his favorite studio releases that did not become hits, much less recognized even by a die-hard Gary V fan. “Tell Me,” which Gary performed for the first time before an audience at the press launch Wednesday, is one of the album tracks.
“It’s a personal thing,” Gary says. “When I’m in the studio and I’m recording, there’s no song that I want to add na pwede na yan. Every song, I pour as much of myself into it as I can. When there are particular songs that don’t make the cut at that particular time, I’m affected by that. These songs are not performances for me. They are expressions. You’re sharing a part of your soul.”
The album features songs from six albums since the 1990s, including “Did It Ever” from the album “Relevance” and “Ohhh” from the CD “Rebirth.”

MANILA, Philippines – International artists are coming here in droves, but a group of Filipino singers are not happy about it.
During the launching of his 25th album titled "Replay" on Wednesday, Gary Valenciano expressed concern over the increasing number of foreign acts in the country.
Although he has nothing against foreign talents doing shows in the Philippines, it becomes an issue as it starts to affect the country’s local artists, the Mr. Pure Energy said.
"No matter what you say talagang apektado ang local scene. Although, siyempre kapag sinabi mong John Mayer ang pupunta sa Manila, 'Wow!' But it will be good if John Mayer is in Manila tapos matagal bago dumating ang susunod,” Valenciano, who is the vice president for internal affairs of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM), explained.

Gary V: Soul In Motion at Music Museum!
by Chuck Gomez | STIR Contributor
7 Sep 2010 | 10:06 AM
Following on the heels of his historic collaboration with Martin Nievera in their successful AS 1 concert series, Gary Valenciano opens the final quarter of the year in a series of special concerts at the Music Museum on Sept. 16, 17, 22, 23, 29, & 30 entitled Gary V: Soul In Motion.
It should be noted that this is Gary V’s first series of solo, full-length concerts since Live At 25 several years ago. Through his production outfit, GV Production and his management company, Manila Genesis Entertainment and Management, Inc., Gary will be working with multi-talented writer, actor and director Freddie Santos for the concert series’ script and direction. Gary and Freddie have collaborated together on the song “Could You Be Messiah” (lyrics by Freddie Santos, and music by Gary himself) as well as several other concerts that Gary has done in the past and Soul In Motion is a reunion of sorts for the 2 artists. Gary is one of the most successful performers to step on the Music Museum stage as many of his over 40 concerts there were sold-out and a couple of projects directed by Freddie himself.
Three groups will become beneficiaries of the concert series namely Compassion 2 One, an international advocacy group dedicated to creating heightened awareness for the plight of the victims of human trafficking both here in the Philippines and abroad; the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), of which Gary has been a long time Ambassador of Goodwill and The Shining Light Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to poor but deserving children as well as medical aid to indigent families.
Because the groups involved in the concert series all champion the rights of children and also help focus attention on the suffering of victims of human trafficking (of which most are children), Soul In Motion is Gary’s battle cry for everyone to stand up and fight for all children and all those who have been oppressed by the hideous acts of a perverted generation. The concert will be another package of fun and relevance for all the Gary V fans aching to see him perform again.
Gary V: Soul In Motion is a pop fun concert with an inspirational twist. And joining Gary in this exciting project is former musical wonder kid and now R&B performer extraordinaire Duncan Ramos together with some surprise guests. Watch out for it!!
Gary V: Soul In Motion is supported by ABS-CBN, The Philippine Star, Lee , Glucontrol, Gold's Gym, Astoria Plaza, McDonald's, Videosonic, ASAP XV, Twist & Shout, Myx, Universal Records, Business World, Essensuals, Studio V., Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, 99.5 RT, WOW 103.5, RX 93.1, Crossover 105.1, U92 and Moose Gear.

Phil. Star | When Martin & Gary sing, dance and laugh again
MANILA, Philippines - Back by popular demand to celebrate over a quarter of a century worth of hits, certainly there was no stopping Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano in delivering entertainment to the max to a full house audience last July 16 at the Araneta Coliseum for AS 1 (The Repeat). Andre Alvarez, head of MYX Channel posted on his Facebook account,”Martin Nievera was a riot with his witty remarks while Gary Valenciano tirelessly danced up a storm all night. It was a joy to see two music iconssinging and dancing together.”
Martin chanced upon Christian Bautista who was in the audience and shared the mic for the song Say That You Love Me. In an interview, Christian said, “Gary and Martin sang all their hits and each number was well-thought of and so well-produced... lahat na talaga ginawa nila. It’s no wonder they still rule the concert scene.”
To the surprise of many, ‘80s songstress Joey Albert was spotted, too. Martin approached her for the song You Are My Song. Aiza Seguerra also jammed with I’ll Be There For You.
Funny moments like Gary teaching Martin to scat, Martin singing Gary’s songs and vice-versa, brought freshness to their act. Complementing each other all night, Martin mixed music and laughter while Gary showcased himself as the ultimate song-and-dance man.
Interestingly, not only did we see Gary and Martin on stage, we also saw (probably for the first time together) their musical directors who have been with them all these years, Mon Faustino and Louie Ocampo are the geniuses behind the two stars’ careers.
And from Gary and Martin: “Thank you, thank you Thank you... from the dynamic duo. It was quite a blast and we are grateful to all the sponsors and the fans who came!”
