Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera host their very first game show ‘Twist and Shout’

Music industry pillars and long-time friends Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera will again join forces, this time around on TV, as they host the new game show Twist and Shout. During their contract signing for the said program, Gary and Martin described the concept of Twist and Shout. Martin said, “Twist and Shout is a not-so stressful singing contest. It’s unique, different. Importante pa rin na nasa tono ka but there are other elements that will making singing very hard. Singing while in a pool of ice, or singing while being attacked by dogs. You have to sing two minutes straight na hindi nadi-distract. The contestants can win up to two million I think. ‘Yung audience may prize rin sila.”

Since this is the first time for Gary and Martin to host a game show, they admitted that they don’t know what to expect from Twist and Shout, but the two concert icons are pleased that the show will still be about singing. Gary shared that although the game show field is alien to him, he is looking forward to doing the program with his good friend. “I’ve never been a game show host. This is my first time, but I have Martin. I know we’re both going to learn from each other, we’re ready for the challenges. Every episode iba iba ang mga contestants, so magiiba rin ang dating namin ni Martin sa camera.”

Gary and Martin are both established names in the music industry, and in their debut as game show hosts, they said that they will not try to copy the other successful hosts and shows that have come before them. “Marami nang game shows na ginawa ang ABS-CBN. But the core element in Twist and Shout is not to try to be a game show and us hosts not to be like Edu Manzano, Cesar Montano, or Kris Aquino who’s already the Queen of Game Shows. We will just be Martin and Gary. Ang alam ng mga tao sa amin is ako ang maloko si Gary ang seryoso. Parang aabangan ng mga tao kung ano ang sasabihin ni Martin na hindi magugustuhan ni Gary. Sana ma-project sa TV ‘yung masayang tandem namin ni Gary when we do ASAP or concerts,” said Martin.

People may know Martin as the talkative one while Gary as the more reserved of the two. Gary believes that difference in their personalities will still fit in the show. “Martin may be very talkative but he’s very sharp. Alam niya kung kailan dapat mag-adlib, kung cut na, kung may nakalimutan pa kaming sabihin. Kapag ganun probably siya ang sasalo nun. Sa concert naming As One ginawa niya ‘yun.” However for Martin, the rules of game show may limit him a bit. “Sa game shows madaming rules. ‘Tama na, stop, ‘wag ka mag adlib!’ Perfect si Gary dito, ha ha ha! It’s me who must learn the rules. Pero kung may mangyari dun ako pwede mag-stretch.”

Watch out for Gary and Martin on Twist and Shout, weekend nights starting July 3. They will also have a repeat of their As One concert this July 16 at the Araneta Coliseum.
