As adventurers into the ethereal world of sound, Junior Boys’ Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus present Begone Dull Care, their third concoction of minimalist yet enticing electronic experimentation. While Greenspan’s soft, romantic and often melancholic voice remains an essential part of the Boys’ equation, the driving force behind the duo’s third album is discovered when taking a closer look at the components of the individual tracks: a distinct bassline, an echoing acoustic guitar and low-key industrial-synth repetitions. At times, the album becomes transparent—almost an homage to the iconic Krautrock of the ’70s and ’80s with its’ broken down beats and uncomplicated lyrics. And while certain tracks such as “The Animator” and “What It’s For” seem to get a little lost in themselves, most tracks triumph in the end, becoming thoughtful and often foot-tapping experiences not to be missed. The boys are definitely back in town.
