More than a year after their old drummer’s departure, Sponge Cola has finally found a new member to join them in their musical crusade. Ted Mark “Tmac” Cruz of the Out of Body Special and Happy Meals is officially the band’s new drummer.
“I don’t think people will be surprised.” says Yael Yuzon, the group’s emphatic frontman. “He has already appeared in two of our music videos - "Puso" and ‘Ayt.’”
Prior to Tmac’s arrival, the band spent more than a year playing with different session drummers, until finally committing to Tmac as a new permanent member. As the band fondly puts it, “We’ve known Tmac for a long time now; ever since we’ve been playing the same circuit back in college. Plus, since we all grew up in the same school, the same environment, he really understands where we’re coming from and what we’re all about. He fits right in.”
The Repackaged Version of the band’s self titled album is currently available in all record bars nationwide under Universal Records and features" Puso" (theme song for Agimat), "Ayt!" (Collaboration with Gary V) and the band’s rendition of the classic, "Closer You and I".

Martin and Gary V together in 'As 1' Concert and CD
abs-cbnNEWS.com | 08/03/2009, 6:40 AM
MANILA - For the first time Comedy Concert King Martin Nievera and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano will be having a concert together dubbed as "As 1" this coming September 19 at SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds.
"Very first time. We worked in other shows, projects but never a show or concert or a CD na kaming dalawa lang," Nievera told ABS-CBN News.
Valenciano said that their upcoming concert will be a proof that they are not rivals and they could work together as one.
"Kasi I think forever until the time that we are no long around, there will always be that comparison between Martin and Gary. There will always be that me looking over my shadow to see what Martin is doing and Martin doing the same thing. But for one concert event something that we do, that we really have a passion for and we are passionate about we came together as one," Valenciano said, adding:
"We are not talking about concert. We are talking about an event that could, maybe we are spearheading an event that could take place in the future of people coming together as one. Kasi kakaiba talaga kapag nangyayari 'yon that people come together na sasabihin ng tao na 'wow is this people coming together' and it makes everybody look good na paang 'mayroon din pala sa kanila 'yong ability to come together like one."
Aside from their upcoming concert, Nievera and Valenciano are also busy recording their first album together titled "As One."
According to Martin, he and Gary have always wanted to put their songs together and with their first album he will be singing the songs of Gary and Gary will be singing his songs.
"You know there are lot of people who would collect or buy copies of CDs that number of songs would be Martin and number of songs would be mine. Now, they can do the same thing but it's Martin doing Gary V songs and Gary V doing Martin songs but not songs are all like that since there are two duets that are originals and then two songs each na 'yong amin talaga," Valenciano added.
Martin said that the whole point of doing the album and the concert together is to show the people that everything is possible and that everybody can live as one.
"The whole point the concert and the CD for the first time what's used to be a competition will now become a team. And we want people all over the world not only in the Philippines to know, maybe this time, that we could live by exaple, that we can live as one, as one voice," Nievera said.
"As 1" album is set to be released first week of August.

AS 1 PRESS LAUNCH
AS 1 CONCERT POSTER
ChristianBautistaOnline.com | Christian Bautista has a crush on Paula Taylor
By: NRJ Ramos | August 24, 2009
Manila Bulletin
Singer Christian Bautista admits that he asked for Paula Taylor to be his partner in the promotional music video for his forthcoming single, “Tell Me Your Name,” because he has a crush on her.
“Who wouldn’t [have a crush] on [Paula Taylor]? She’s really super beautiful,” Bautista said of the Thai model-VJ.
“Tell Me Your Name,” a remake of the Jose Mari Chan original, is part of Christian’s fourth album (but his first one) under Universal Records.
Bautista feels it was serendipitous for him and Taylor to be together—for the music video at least.
“When Universal Records was planning for the music video, the idea was to do something really different, including the choice of [my] leading lady. By chance, Paula was in town.”
According to Bautista, Taylor told him that she also had wanted to work with him after she and her manager saw him on MYX.
“She told me that she actually asked her manager, ‘Who is that guy? Maybe we can do a video together…’
“So, when Universal Records called it was like, wow! It all fit. Everything just fell into places.”
This early, Bautista is already feeling the pressure of being compared to multi-awarded singer composer Jose Mari Chan.
“Hindi lang [kasi siya nag] hit ng Platinum [at] Diamond, kundi lahat na yata ng awards, naibigay na sa kanya.
“Nung nag-usap nga kami ni Mr. Jose Mari Chan, I told him, ‘It’s really an honor, thank you. I have to admit, it’s a big pressure coz this is big… I’m grateful that you allowed me [to sing your songs].’
“Ang sabi naman niya sa akin, ‘This is good. I’m also proud that you’re gonna do my songs.’”
Bautista said his aim is not top Chan’s achievements but to merely re-introduce his songs to a new audience..
“I’ll just be a tool [for that end] by singing his songs,” said Christian.

PEP.ph | Sarah Geronimo sings a duet with Christian Bautista in his first album with Universal Records
by: Rose Garcia | August 24, 2009
A DREAM COME TRUE.
"It's an arrangement between Viva Records and Universal," sagot ng Pop Princess. "Tapos, ako rin po mismo ang nagsabi kay Boss Vic del Rosario [Viva big boss] na gusto na talaga namin ni Kuya [Christian] na mag-collaborate, dati pa. Kaya lang din po, dahil sa busy schedules namin pareho, hindi pa nagkakatugma. Magkaiba rin po yung recording outfit namin. So, finally naman po, 'eto, nagkaroon ng chance."

CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA & SARAH GERONIMO DUET NEWS ON ABS-CBNNEWS.COM
abs-cbnnews.com | 08/22/2009 8:13 PM
MANILA - Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo is staying put with Viva Records amid speculation that she is jumping ship to a different recording company.
Geronimo said her duet with Asia's Pop Idol Christian Bautista for the latter's new album is not an indication of a possible move. Bautista recently moved from record label Warner Music Philippines to Universal Records.
Geronimo explained that the Viva allowed her to do a duet of Jose Mari Chan's hit "Please Be Careful With My Heart" with Bautista.
"Hindo po sa Viva Records pa din ako. (Malakas lang po talaga sa akin si Christian?) Naman. Pero personally po gusto ko talagang maka-duet si Christian and ngayon lang nabigyan ng chance na mangyari na.
For Bautista, he said he didn't have a hard time asking permission from Viva to allow Geronimo to record a song with him.
"(Hindi naman kami nahirapan). More of schedule (ang naging problema). Kasi busy siya at ako din parang more of finding the right schedule and the right song. Ang galing din ng management namin at walang nasasagasaang ibang plans," Bautista said.
As his first project with Universal Records, Bautista is now recording a 20-track album containing remakes of songs popularized by Chan.
Bautista’s still untitled album highlights the young balladeer’s version of “I Have Fallen In Love (With The Same Woman Three Times)" - Chan's tribute song to the Philippines’ Icon of Democracy President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
The record will also include remakes of Chan’s classics “Tell Me Your Name,” “My Girl My Woman My Friend” (a duet with Regine Velasquez), “Here And Now” (a duet with Lani Misalucha), “A Heart’s Journey” (a duet with Jose Mari Chan), “Constant Change,” “Refrain,” “Can’t We Start Over Again,” “I Remember The Girl,” “Stay My Love,” “Be Gentle,” “So I’ll Go,” “Can We Just Stop And Talk Awhile,” “Deep In My Heart,” “Afterglow,” “Afraid For Love To Fade,” “A Love To Last A Lifetime” and “Christmas Past.”
'Secret crush'
After being romantically linked to singer Karylle, there are now rumors that Bautista has his eyes set on Geronimo.
Bautista said there is no truth to the rumors, adding that he is just a good friend of Geronimo. For the Pop Star Princess she said that she only sees Bautista as an older brother.
"Ako okay lang maging kuya. Ang tagal na naming magkasama ni Sarah every since naging friends kami. Kahit tinatawag kaming kuya it's an honor na someone look up to you as a kuya," Bautista ended.

Times Online UK | The Prodigy's Keith Flint on battling his addictions and finding peace
The Prodigy singer, who is about to turn 40, tells about battling his addictions and finding peace in rural Essex
by: Stephen Robinson
Back in the Prodigy’s 1990s heyday, Keith Flint was known as the “scariest man in music”, with his tattoos and nose studs and his manic onstage persona, but in person it turns out that he is exceptionally gentle and has impeccable manners. True, he swears like a trooper, but after he accuses someone, often himself, of behaving like a c***, he promptly apologises, before using the word again.
When we meet over a large bottle of fizzy water and a bowl of fruit off the Portobello Road in Notting Hill, West London,he realises immediately that I am no rock journalist. I had tried — oh, how I had tried — to listen to the Prodigy’s new album Invaders Must Die. But Flint is sporting enough not to ask me my views.
We talk, instead, about his Tudor home in Essex — a source of pride. Flint worries that because he is an Essex boy, readers will think his house, set in ten acres, is a mock-Tudor Barratt home, when in fact it is a listed historical treasure outside Felsted, with a priest box in the roof. The village features in the Domesday Book, and Cromwell mustered his troops on Flint’s property, which he has meticulously restored from the ruinous state in which he acquired it.
bought the surface of an entire street in Bristol so that he could secure the right cobbles for his driveway. Then he hunted down 19th-century porcelain toilets and matching hand basins to get the feel right in the bathrooms. “It’s very boring and very un-rock’n’roll to talk about it, but I do love my house,” he explains apologetically. “I sold on the cobbles that I didn’t need. I’m from Essex you see, so I’m quite a dealer.”
When not touring with the band, he’s at home, with his six dogs roaming the extensive grounds, which is an important detail because Flint says that the dogs were the main reason he did not kill himself when things were not going so well in his life.
Prodigy were huge in the 1990s, and Fat of the Land went double platinum. They have sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and, unlike some of the Brit bands of the 1990s such as Oasis, they cracked the American market. After a period of inertia after the turn of the millennium, Invaders has sold all over the world, boosted by a recent bravura appearance at Glastonbury. In the Nineties, parents worried as their teenage children disappeared to dance clubs to take Ecstasy and grind around to their most infamous numbers, notably Smack my Bitch Up and Firestarter. It is hard to square this image with the man now sitting calmly in front of me.
still has the tattoos and nose stud, but he is teetotal and much more likely to be found these days in the gym, boxing or practising Brazilian ju-jitsu, than disappearing to the loo for a line of coke.
For a while during the band’s downturn in fortunes, many of Flint’s friends would not have bet on his reaching his 40th birthday next month. He is at first reluctant to talk about this phase of his life because, he says, “drink and drugs hell” is a self-indulgent cliché, and he has never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him.
Flint had a tough upbringing in Essex. He no longer speaks to his father. He was a bright boy with severe dyslexia, so he was disruptive at school and was sent to psychologists to be sorted out, though they found that there was not a great deal that they could do for him. “I’ve always had mental problems, so to speak. I’m incredibly self-destructive,” he says...

Blogcritics Music | Album Review: Ally Kerr - Off The Radar
by: Jeff Perkins
The opening line of Ally Kerr’s second album, Off The Radar (Much Obliged Records, 2008) gives a tantalizing taste of the thinking person’s pop craft that is to follow. The line comes from “Could Have Been A Contender” and it opens with, ‘he sits and smiles at his big CV thinking he’s just the knees of some bee’.
Scotland is a land that has already brought us Belle and Sebastian, Arab Strap, Teenage Fanclub, Franz Ferdinand, The Goldenhour, John Martyn, Idlewild, Daniel Wylie, and a whole host of other artists that literally ooze song writing talent. It is high praise indeed to say that Ally Kerr has emerged as one of its brightest and fastest rising talents.
Perversely it was in far away Japan that he really started to get the recognition he deserves when his debut album Calling Out To You was voted in a magazine’s list of the "Top 20 Albums Ever to Come Out Of Scotland". As a result he was immediately placed alongside some of the aforementioned highly esteemed company. When his track "The Sore Feet Song" was featured on Japanese television animated show Mushishi, it led to it being released as a successful single.
The tide was turning and soon he would achieve the recognition he clearly deserved in his native Scotland. It happened in 2005 when Neon Tetra Records brought him back onto the radar of his homeland and released Calling Out To You. When the single “Could Have Been A Contender” was released early in 2008 it received glowing reviews. Suddenly Ally Kerr was a name to look out for and his new album was eagerly anticipated.
Trawling through the reviews you will see comparisons to all sorts of names such as Simon and Garfunkel, Belle and Sebastian, and Elliot Smith. I can see all of that but there is also something vaguely of Neil Finn and Crowded House about his songs. An upbeat Elliot Smith would most definitely fit as well.
These are somewhat simple, yet effective songs that are expertly crafted. This is the sign of a natural songwriter with something to say and an unfailing ability to make that all important connection to the life, loves, and troubles of the listener. It is jangly, melodic, catchy, memorable pop, with an endearing edge of quirkiness about it that reels you in and wins you over. This is a thinking person’s pop with well crafted melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and more hooks than a Peter Pan convention.

The Prodigy music video "Take Me To The Hospital"
"We shot parts of the video in a derelict mental hospital. A proper death trap. Holes in the floor and shit falling out the ceiling. We broke in which involved being chased by dogs and a run in with the cops. We wanted a hospital in there but didn't want to shove it down people's throats. The video was recorded onto vhs. We wanted it to look like an 80's movie you've just found at the back of the cupboard. Doing it analogue gave it a real unique look that you can't create on a shiny computer. Keep it real."
- Dugdale and The Prodigy
"Take Me To The Hospital" is the 3rd single from The Prodigy's hit album "Invaders Must Die".

CONVERSATIONS With Ricky Lo
The Philippine Star
August 16, 2009
The first time I met Gary it was like going to a new school in another country where it was almost magical to find one out of the many students to have so much in common with. We had the same likes and dislikes in cars, music, singers and girls.
I remember going to his house sharing dreams about becoming big stars one day not knowing that we would be pitted against each other somewhere down the road. Those were good and innocent days. Then the harmony between us seemed unbreakable until the day the business that has been so very good to us both made us rivals.
In many ways I think I have gotten as far as I have, thanks to Gary. Just like McDonald’s should thank Jollibee, I thank Gary for those days. They were not fun at the time, but competition never is unless you win. But for Gary and I, it was never winning or losing. It was ALWAYS about how we play the gig. I think I can speak for Gary when I say, for us there is no show too big or too small. We live and breathe when we are on stage and this will forever be our common bond that keeps us together no matter how they try to pull us apart.
The first time I saw Gary perform on Penthouse Live I knew without a doubt he would be a huge star…I hate it when I am right.
* * *
Gary for me is a perfectionist almost to a fault. What is good enough for most is a work in progress for Mr. Pure Energy. His work ethics is like no other. If he doesn’t have a full grasp of every detail of every song he studies, sings, writes or dances to, for Gary it’s a failure. I only know one other person who had this same quality about him and that is Michael Jackson...

The Philippine Star | Christian Bautista Joins Universal Records
"Christian Bautista: Reinvented"
Conversations with Ricky Lo | August 2, 2009
...That poem, titled I Have Fallen In Love (With The Same Woman Three Times), was written by Benigno Aquino Jr. for Cory Aquino at Fort Bonifacio on Oct. 11, 1973 for their 19th wedding anniversary and set to music by Jose Mari Chan who recorded it in 1989.
Today on the ABS-CBN noontime show A.S.A.P. ‘09, Christian Bautista will sing that song which he’s dedicating to former Pres. Cory Aquino who lost her brave battle to colon cancer at 3:18 yesterday morning at the Makati Med where she was confined for more than a month.
It’s also one of the 20 songs in Christian’s latest album, untitled just yet and to be released early next month, his first for Universal Records, the new home to which he made “the big move” from Warner Music with which he had been under contract since 2004 (his contract has recently expired) and which released his first four albums.
The 19 others are all Jose Mari Chan classics, including Tell Me Your Name, Beautiful Girl, Please Be Careful With My Heart (a duet with Sarah Geronimo), My Girl My Woman My Friend (with Regine Velasquez), Here And Now (with Lani Misalucha), A Heart’s Journey (with Jose Mari Chan), Constant Change, Refrain, Can’t We Start Over Again, I Remember The Girl, Stay My Love, Be Gentle, So I’ll Go, Can We Just Stop And Talk Awhile, Deep In My Heart, Afterglow, Afraid For Love To Fade, A Love To Last A Lifetime and Christmas Past.
Part of that “big move” was the reinvention of Christian.
So why the “reinvention”?
”Well, it’s about time that I changed a bit my ‘good boy’ image. It involves not only my looks, which is more mature, but also my style of singing which is now more intimate, more mellow and more mapuso. To us Filipinos kasi, nagiging magaling agad ang singer kapag mahusay bumirit when he reaches the high notes. What I want to prove now is that even if I don’t scream at you, I want to let you feel the heart of my song.”
Your “big move” from Warner to Universal came suddenly. Any hard feelings between Warner and you?
“You know, I will always be grateful to Warner for building me up and for taking care of me, even if when I started I finished only fourth (to Erik Santos) in the Star In A Million contest. Kahit natalo ako they still believed in me and made me what I am now. But there comes a time in your career when you want to reinvent yourself, so when we were offered by Universal this kind of album, na-challenge ako. It was an offer I could not refuse.”
It’s some kind of your tribute to Jose Mari Chan.
“I have been a big fan of Jose Mari Chan since I was a kid. It’s a big, big honor for me to sing his songs, all of them I know by heart. I can see similarities, kahit konti lang naman, between Jose Mari and me, especially sa style ng pagkanta which is very mellow. Like him, I love love songs. His songs have crossed-over to Asian countries and I hope my new album will do the same. We met the other day for lunch and the first thing I told him was, ‘Sir, I need to hug you.’ For him to allow me to sing his songs is, as I’ve said, a great honor. He told me that what I’m doing is sharing his songs to the new generation and he’s glad daw that I am the one doing it”...

The Big Showdown, At Last: Martin vs Gary V!
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo (The Philippine Star)
Updated August 07, 2009
As they would say, mag-kakaalaman na.
Isn’t it high time we knew who really rules the concert scene, who performs better, who can shake the crowd to boiling point, who deserves to be ranked No. 1?
Martin Nievera or Gary Valenciano?
The big showdown, titled As 1, is scheduled, rain or shine, on Sept. 19 (a Saturday), starting at 8 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds.
No billing problems? Whose name should come first in the ads? Who gets a bigger talent fee?
The two considerable icons have guested in each other’s shows both here and abroad but it’s the first time they have agreed to do a concert together. Well and good. If not now, when? Kapag uugod-ugod na sila? You wouldn’t want your idols performing attached to, hmmmm, wheelchairs, do you?
I gathered a few comparison points between Martin and Gary V. (that kind of billing will have to suffice for now, but only in this corner) from people who have watched the two in their (solo) concerts, to wit:
• Martin is the better singer and Gary V. is the better dancer;
• Martin is an original while Gary V. is a Michael Jackson “clone” (something he has never outgrown and which he should bury...in MJ’s Neverland?);
• Martin is the total performer while Gary V. is Mr. Pure Energy; and
• Martin can entertain the audience not just with his singing but also with his gift of gab and comedic flair; while Gary V. spices up his singing with “body language” and a sprinkling of “religious” music.
Actually, I have a choice of who The One is but I’d rather keep it to myself. You, too, right?

• Martin is the better singer and Gary V. is the better dancer;
• Martin is an original while Gary V. is a Michael Jackson “clone” (something he has never outgrown and which he should bury...in MJ’s Neverland?);
