MANILA, Philippines — The devastation wrought by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng is bringing out the best in many of us, releasing an outpouring of love for the people affected by them. To express their eagerness to help, some 80 performers are coming together to raise funds for the typhoons’ victims.
The concert, “Pilipino, Kaya Natin ’To,” will be staged on Dec. 5 at the SM Mall of Asia under Rowell Santiago’s direction. The idea for a benefit concert began with talent manager, Girlie Rodis, who called on Ogie Alcasid to help gather OPM artists for a fundraising event. Rodis shares, “Ondoy destroyed houses, and Gawad Kalinga is about building homes, so we chose it to be the concert’s main beneficiary.”
For the concert, Ogie composed the song "Pilipino, Kaya Natin ’To,” which conveys a message of hope through music, as it seeks to uplift the spirits of typhoon victims. The performers may come from competing production labels and networks, but they’re bound by a common desire to help.
“Pilipino, Kaya Natin ’To,” sung by OPM Artists United, has been released as a CD single by Universal Records, in cooperation with Sony Music, MCA Universal, Warner, Star Records, Polyeast, Viva and GMA Records.
