wise. Album standout "Paper Romance" could have fit right in on MGMT's "Oracular Spectacular." But then again, it's not as if Armada can't lay claim to certain elements of that sound-what Cato calls "that Brooklyn thing; rock'n'roll made by people who grew up in nightclubs." Armada first burst onto the U.S. scene with the booty-shaking "I See You" during the height of the big beat era in 1999, and the duo now hosts the Lovebox event series, which has boasted headliners like N*E*R*D and Goldfrapp. Now free from all prior obligations-including one of the first brand-based 360 deals with Bacardi and a nearly decade-long Jive contract-Groove Armada is putting out "Black Light" on San Francisco-based indie Om. "People who were really feeling it, we just worked with them," Cato says of the label selection process. "You can't put a price on raw enthusiasm."
