"Singer-actor-TV host Sam Concepcion is ready to fly as he is set to star in Stages and Repertory Philippines' production of Peter Pan,which goes onstage this September 29 to October 30 at the Meralco Theater.

"Peter Pan serves as Sam's musical theater comeback after headlining the successful run of High School Musical, where he played the role of Troy Bolton.

Manila Bulletin | Regine explores new horizons

For years, she has dominated the local and international music scene as “Asia’s Songbird.” Now that she has married the love of her life, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid is ready to sing totally new songs, even one about settling down.

Fortunately for her numerous fans, this does not at all mean that she would quit her flourishing career; she just feels it is time to explore the other sides of her that nobody has seen: a housewife, a homemaker and, hopefully soon, a mother.

“I started my career when I was sixteen,” she explains. “I have been working for 25 years so I feel that now is my time to settle. Nagawa ko na lahat for my family so ako naman ngayon.”

The last statement couldn’t be truer. Although Regine considers herself very independent and tough, underneath is a conservative and religious individual who deeply values her family upbringing as the groundwork for her success. That’s why she reciprocates her blessings in every way she can.

Simply yet smartly, that’s how Regine sums up her childhood upbringing. Her father helped her train her voice by having her sing while neck-deep in the waters off Southern Leyte where she grew up. Her mother also helped her by teaching her how to move on stage and interpret songs; and she nurtured Regine’s budding talents in other ways as well.

“Even though we were not well off, marunong dumiskarte ang nanay ko,” she proudly says. “She made sure she gave us nutritious food and plenty of milk to drink. Laging may gulay at gatas akong iniinom kaya hindi ako sakitin.”

This habit has stayed with Regine all these years. That’s why she gives her support to the Laki Sa Gatas Nutrition Education Advocacy, which promotes among kids and their parents the importance of proper nutrition along with good education to turn their lives for the better and help them attain their ambitions.

The campaign – one of many being endorsed by the philanthropically inclined celebrity – reaches out to public school students and their moms all over the country, sharing the need to take on nutritious and affordable habits.

PEP.ph | Christian Bautista's Indonesian film will be screened in Manila this July

Last April 27, Christian Bautista was in Jakarta, Indonesia to appear as a guest in the morning musical variety show De Rings (Ring Tone).

Christian sang "I'm Already King" which is the theme song for his first full-length film titled Simfoni Luar Biasa (A Special Symphony) produced by Nation Pictures Indonesia.

Christian arrived at the Trans TV Studio at 9 a.m. for a sound check then waited in the studio's coffee shop to review the program's itinerary. When it was his turn, he stepped on the set after he was introduced by the hosts of the show. The Filipino singer-actor then performed his song, much to the delight of the Indonesian crowd.

During his interview on the show, Christian mentioned how excited and thrilled he is to learn that his movie will finally be seen in the region. The film will be launched in Manila in July 2011 followed by Indonesia on September then in Malaysia and Singapore.

In a previous interview with PEP.ph, Christian described his experience while working on this international film.

"Kakaibang experience 'to, kasi very professional sila. Very nice yung treatment nila sa akin. And at that time, I really gave my best on this project. Hopefully, magustuhan ng mga manonood."

Will you give us a brief description of what this movie is all about?

"I am a Filipino musician who goes to Jakarta to look for a job and to look for my long lost mother. Then, napunta ko sa isang school for special children. Ako yung naging music teacher nila. Tapos ginawa ko silang isang choir. This is a family inspirational movie.

"Ako lang yung nag-iisa Filipino actor dito, the rest of the actors and actresses here are Indonesians na."

Christian Bautista and Vanness Wu for Jesus

The Mawar Sharon Church of Indonesia, headed by Pastor Philip Mantofa, saw a vision reviving multitudes from different Asian nations two years ago. The Asia For Jesus crusade was successfully born with thousands flocking to their evangelistic events.

This year, Pastor Mantofa goes beyond borders by inviting Asian celebrities to give their time, testimonies and songs for Jakarta, Surabaya and Taiwan. The respected leader chose American-born Taiwan superstar Vanness Wu of F4 and Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista to take part in the proceedings.

Vanness shared and sang for a crowd of over 10,000 in Jakarta's Central Park last Tuesday, April 26, while last April 29, Christian performed and gave a testimony for over 20,000 in the Kenjeran Park Surabaya (the second largest city in Indonesia).
