Kpoplive.com | SM Artists Dominate Philippine Charts

SM Artists have made a new record in a country far from their own.

Years ago, 2003 to be exact, Asian albums, including those of K-Pop artists like S.E.S., Swi-T and BoA, were first released in the Philippines, but these acts were not very successful in terms of sales.

Now, due to the K-Pop boom and Universal Records marketing savvy, the result is a string of #1 albums in a period of 12 months!

Universal Records, the official home of SM Entertainment in the Philippines, is proud to reveal that most of the SM albums they released, 13 of those have reached the #1 position in different major record retail chains like Music One, Odyssey and Astroplus/Astrovision!

Mind you, this is a tough thing to achieve because of international competition from acts like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Glee etc. Other record labels have attempted but unfortunately the results were rather disappointing.

Here's a list of Universal Records #1 K-Pop Artists & Albums plus the date when they achieved their #1 position:

Super Junior
Sorry Sorry - September 2009
Super Girl ( by sub-group Super Junior-M) - November 2009
Super Show 2 Live Album - February 2010
Don’t Don - May 2010
Bonamana Version A & B - July 2010
Bonamana Version C - August 2010

Girls' Generation
Genie - October 2009
Oh! - March 2010
Run Devil Run - May 2010

BoA
Identity - April 2010

Tohoshinki
Best Selection - May 2010

f(x)
NU ABO -June 2010

SHINee
Lucifer - September 2010

Who will be the next SM artist to have a #1 album in the Philippines?

Join the poll here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=556743&id=214540185413

Congratulations to all the local K-Pop fans who are responsible in making their idols reach the top spot and showing the SM Love!

BoA reveals “Copy & Paste” concept photos

Check out BoA’s new concept photos for her repackaged sixth album, “Copy & Paste!” The artist is looking chic with her platinum blonde hair and loose shirts. It seems that BoA’s going for a cuter look compared to a fierce one shown through “Hurricane Venus.” What do you guys think of the new concept?

Often referred as "The Voice" and "The Singer's Singer" by the media, Jed Madela is one of the best male singers the country has ever produced. Jed made waves during the 2005 World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood California when he single-handedly won all major industry awards, 6 gold medals for all 6 categories he joined in the World Star Trophy and the most coveted and ultimate title "Grand Champion Performer of the World", the first Filipino to win the title. He bested over 3,000 contestants from 52 countries to win the grand prize.

WCOPA is the first and only international series of competitions that seek to find and crown the best aspiring performing artists on earth. Malaya | Parokya ni Edgar is back… to basics

Their last album was three years ago, but far from being forgotten, Parokya ni Edgar only made their fans more eager about their next outing.

Older – and presumably wiser – lead vocalist Chito Miranda, drummer Dindin Moreno, vocalist Vinci Montaner, bassist Buwi Meneses and guitarists Darius Semana and Gab Cheekee – return to the scene with a new album, "Middle-Aged Juvenile Novelty Pop Rockers," and an old sound.

But old does not mean tired. Chito says it’s getting back to the basics, returning to the sound he – and the rest of the members – will always have a strong affinity to.

"Namiss ko ‘yung bands ng ‘90s na old school. Kahit nga ‘yung cover namin, inspired by ‘Ninja Tutles’ na sikat nung ‘90s.

"Gusto naming ibalibag ‘yung listeners sa ‘90s, ‘yung mga kuwentong kung ano ang napakinggan sa ‘90s, which we are really a part of.

"Eto ‘yung time na sobrang raw ang tugtugan," he reminisces.

The album features 15 tracks, including the lead single "Paki-Usap Lang (Lasingin Nyo Ako)" which is made in the tradition of one of the band’s biggest hits, "Inuman Na."

"Paki-Usap," true to its back-to-basics theme, has a personal video taken during be a trip to the beach of Chito and his friends like Ehra Madrigal, Bubbles Paraiso and Angel Locsin and Ehra’s boyfriend, Myke Salomon. The shaky, sometimes blurred shots show the group having fun carousing in a pool and drinking beer.

The rest of the tracks features the same irreverent humor of the band: "Original Song," "Ganito O!," "Reunion (Panahon ng Kasiyahan)," "Orange," "Pangarap Lang Kita Feat. Happee Sy," "OK Katol," "Francis Vincent Montaner," "Red Pants," "Yakult," "Walong Baso," "One Hit Combo feat. Gloc9," "Tuloy Po Kayo," "Lolo Bye," "Ok Lang Ako," and "Pangarap Lang Kita feat. Francis Vincent Montaner."

The album marks the third year since the release of their previous album "Solid," which was followed by a heavy three years of touring not only in the country but overseas as well. It was the chief reason it took the band this long to release a new album.

"Priority naming gigs kasi ala kaming day jobs so kailangan tugtog ng tugtog," Chito says.

Compared with the devil-may-care attitude that guided the making of "Solid," their new album is a return to the jokes and a return to love.

The album is out from Universal Records.

Neocolours on MYX Live - September 29 (Wed.) at 10pm

Photo courtesy of Joel H. Garcia
Catch the iconic OPM pop band Neocolours reunite on MYX Live this Wednesday (September 29), 10PM as they perform their greatest hits like "Tuloy Pa Rin", "Maybe", "Hold On", "Say You'll Never Go" and more!

Neocolours was formed 1988 in Manila, Philippines. Founding members were Ito Rapadas (vocalist), Jimmy Antiporda (keyboards), Marvin Querido (2nd keyboards), Josel Jimenez (guitar), Paku Herrera (bass) and Nino Regalado (drums). In 1991, Jack Rufo (guitar) joined the band. Neocolours filled in the pop music void with the release of their first album, "Making It" in 1989. The said album reached platinum sales, generated a buzz in the industry and helped usher in a new era in the Philippine recording industry that is now known as the early 90's band explosion. The second album "Tuloy Pa Rin" came out in 1990 and created more hit singles for the band. It similarly reached platinum status and cemented several tracks as classic "OPM" songs to this day.The band agreed to retire in 1994. Encouraged by the continuing interest of its fans, the band decided to do a "re-recording" of the old hits of the past albums and compile the latter in a greatest hits edition in 1999. Released by Universal Records, the album entitled "Emerge: The Best of Neocolours" as of this time has reached double platinum sales. Neocolours songs have been repeatedly covered by various artists through the years which undoubtedly contributed to the band's status as a relevant '80s pop act. Their songs were used in various commercials, movie and television show themes.

SHINee "Lucifer" sold 1,800 copies in the Philippines in one day!

SHINee's Lucifer album has been launched last September 18th by Universal Records and SHINee World Philippines in the Philippines in three key stores and it has been welcomed greatly by the fans!

This certain album already sold more than 100,000 copies in Korea just after two weeks of its release. Given that number, it wouldn't be surprising to have good sales in launchings of the album.

However it came as a surprise to everyone that SHINee would be able to sell 1,800 albums in a day! Each album amounts to PHP500 and when you sum it up, the sales to total to a whopping PHP900,000 ! (Around 20,500 U.S. Dollars).

Previous K-Pop albums to have sold more than 1,000 copies in one day were those by Super Junior, Girls' Generation and U-Kiss!

The album event was held in Astroplus The Block, Odyssey Megamall and Odyssey Mall of Asia. The programs include freebies, dance numbers from SHINee cover group and fan club registration. In fact, SHINee World Philippines ran out Fan club membership forms because they did not expect more than a thousand Shawols would troop to the event venues.

The #1 music channel in the Philippines, MYX (a staunch supporter of K-Pop from the very beginning), was also present during the event to cover the successful album launch.

After just 2 days of release in the market, SHINee's Lucifer album shot straight to the #1 spot in Astroplus/Astrovision Album Chart! This is SHINee's FIRST #1 album in the Philippines and the 13th #1 K-Pop album from Universal Records and SM Entertainment!

Congratulations to SHINee and Pinoy Shawols for being able to achieve this tremendous success! Hats off to you guys!

Allkpop | SHINee has the most power in the SM Family?

Super Junior’s Eunhyuk made an astonishing statement divulging that SHINee has the most power of the entire SM Family.

The Chuseok special episode of MBC’s ‘A Good Day’, featured a special on the SMTOWN concerts in LA and Shanghai.

When the group gathered at the airport to depart for Los Angeles, a scene with Minho and Eunhyuk playing around was shown. However, Eunhyuk suddenly went up to the camera and stated, “Our cute maknaes hold the most power. Since Minho is a big trend these days, I can’t do anything to him. In our company, SHINee has the most authority.”

Allkpop | One Way’s Peter uploads his commercials from back in the day

We all know that hip hop trio One Way is one of the slickest boys on the block – so when a throwback video of member Peter surfaces on the ‘net, the effect is instantly hilarious and endearing.

On their official YouTube account, a video titled “Lil’ Peter’s TV Commercials back in the day ^^” was uploaded, which contains three clips of Peter featured in commercials back when he was a young’un in Australia.

The first commercial is for the popular Goldfish snack, but you barely get a glimpse of Peter. The last two are commercials for Kellogg’s LCM bars and you can definitely spot him in that one (considering how he’s the only Asian in the video). The quality isn’t all that great, since it’s back from the VHS days, but nevertheless, check it out below!

Kangin showed that he was sorry to us and really did reflect that on his actions, but we couldn’t help but feel a sense of betrayal when one month later, he became involved in another drunk driving accident.”

They went on to state, “But we believed that we are all one, so we tried to protect him as much as possible. They say that time is medicine, and as time passed, our feelings softened up as well.”

The members also confessed their feelings on fellow member Hankyung’s decision to terminate his contract with SM Entertainment.

“We still can’t get in contact with Hankyung. We were all very close with him but we are unable to contact him separately. We honestly felt disappointed when reports said that his life in Korea was difficult and that the Super Junior members didn’t take care of him.”

Leader Lee Teuk continued, “It would’ve been nice if he discussed his problems with the members first because we honestly had no idea. None of us ever thought that Hankyung would act like that.”

The members all agreed by stating, “We still miss Hankyung right now.”

Lee Teuk concluded, “We leave an empty space for Hankyung. My one dream is to stand on stage with all 13 of us and perform before I leave for the army. I hope for it to happen.”

Lee Teuk still have some years left before the age limit (35) where Korean male citizens must serve a mandatory 2 years in the military. However, most celebrities tend to serve around the ages of 28-30, so they can still be relatively young and continue their careers when their tour of duty is over.

Netizens commented, “Whenever something bad happens, members are afraid to speak the truth on broadcasts. I like that they’re being honest.,” “I miss Hankyung as well,” and “Super Junior shines the brightest when it’s 13.”

Super Junior's Shindong in Chuseok outfit

Super Junior's Lee Teuk’s stage name wasn’t originally ‘Lee Teuk’?

Super Junior’s leader Lee Teuk recently shared a story of when he was once tangled up about his stage name.

On SBS’s ‘Star Real Video Case Idols – Chuseok Special‘, Lee Teuk revealed, “My stage name wasn’t originally Lee Teuk.”

He continued, “My first stage name was Kangsu. Kangta’s (H.O.T) name meaning was, ‘Strike a heavy blow (kangta) to the K-pop industry’, while Jun Jin’s (Shinhwa) was, ‘Advance (junjin) into the K-pop industry’, and Hye Sung’s (Shinhwa) was ‘K-pop’s comet (hyesung)’. SM Entertainment President Lee Soo Man made me Kangsu as a meaning of, ‘Time to rain (kangsu) on K-pop’.

Leeteuk continued stating, “I really didn’t like the sound of my name, so instead I received the name ‘Shin-i (God)’. When I asked what it meant, they said they derived it from ‘A child sent from God’. When I asked President Lee Soo Man what it meant, he said “You special (leeteuk) rascal’, and ever since then I’ve became Lee Teuk from then onwards.”
